St. A, BSE, Altamont, S.C. Claim NTC Tourney Wins

Effingham St. Anthony, Brownstown/St. Elmo, South Central and Altamont picked up opening round victories in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Monday.

St. Anthony 2, Dieterich 0

St. Anthony opened this contest with a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on a second run in the fifth. Adam Levitt pitched a two-hitter with two walks and 14 strikeouts.

St. Anthony had nine hits in the contest. In the first inning, Bryar Jansen opened the top of the first with a single. Ben Mendella and Drew Gibson followed with back-to-back singles. Jansen ended up scoring on a stolen base.

Then in the fifth, Jansen again led off the inning with a single but was thrown oiut going home. With one out, Gibson tripled and came home on a double by Greg Utz.

Dieterich didn't get anyone on base until the fourth when Goedde singled but two grounders and a strikeout ended the game. Radloff tripled in the fifth but Levitt got tough, striking out the next three batters.

Brownstown/St. Elmo 9, Windsor/Stew-Stras 3

Brownstown/St. Elmo tallied five runs in the third inning then tacked on three more in the fifth and one in the seventh to beat Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 9-3. The Hatchets runs came in the bottom of the seventh.

Noah Flowers picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, two strikeouts and three walks.

BSE was led by Landon Feezel with a single, double and two RBI, Noah Flowers with two singles and three RBI, Rocky Himes with a double, Lewis Brown with two singles and an RBI and Cole Horner with two singles. BSE improves to 9-10.

WSS was led by Hutchinson with a triple and an RBI, Kramer with two singles and an RBI, Thies with two singles and Ohnesorge with two singles.

Altamont 10, Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 0

Altamont stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back in beating BCCH Monday.

Nick Miller opened the first with a double and came home on a single by Caden Miller. C. Miller stole second before two outs were registered. Brandon Hosick then singled him home. Hosick stole second and came home on a double by Kaleb Whitt.

The lead went to 7-0 in the third on a single by Hosick, walks to Whitt and Alex Biggs and back-to-back doubles by Jake Finn and Kolby Pemberton. Finn drove in all three runs and Pemberton had an RBI.

Two more runs came in the fourth on a double by Devon Guerrettaz, a single by Whitt and a single by Finn. A final run came in the sixth.

C. Miller picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with three walks and 10 strikeouts. Hits for BCCH were a single by Justin Rexroad and a single by Caleb Doty.

South Central 6, North Clay (Louisville) 3

South Central handed North Clay a 6-3 defeat. The Cougars stepped out to a 1-0 first inning lead then pushed ahead 3-0 in the fourth.

However, North Clay came back to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at 3-3. The two teams went through 12 innings before South Central tallied three runs in the top of the 12th. Dre Hill singled with two outs to score Brett Harmeier. Trevor Markley then doubled and Hill came home. Ryan Matheny singled in Markley and the Cougars moved ahead 6-3.

Geiler was the winning pitcher on a nine-hitter with four strikeouts.
