Altamont Nabs NTC Baseball Title, Dieterich Beats SA, S. Central Wins

STRASBURG -- Altamont High School claimed the National Trail Conference regular season baseball championship Thursday and did it on their coach, Alan Whitt's birthday.

The Indians edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 6-5 despite being outhit 15-6 and commiting two more errors than the Hatchets.

The Indians trailed the Hatchets 3-2 after two innings but tallied three runs to pull ahead 5-3 in the third. Altamont held a 6-4 lead until the seventh when WSS came back with a run only to fall short.

Altamont tallied two in the second on a single by Brandon Hosick and back-to-back walks by Jake Finn and Kolby Pemberton. Nick Miller then drove in two runs with a single.

WSS came back to take a 3-2 lead. Isaac Kramer reached on an error and Chase Thies hit a double. Another error loaded the bases. With one out, Dalton Armes hit a single, driving in a run and Derek Moschenrose followed with an RBI single.

Altamont went to a 5-3 lead in the third. Klaiton Wolff started the inning off with a solo home run. Devon Guerrettaz drew a walk and Kaleb Whitt reached on an error. Passed balls and a fielder's choice scored a run. Jake Finn then grounded out but a third run scored.

Altamont went ahead 6-3 in the top of the fourth. Kolby Pemberton led off with a double and later scored on an error.

WSS pulled within 6-4 in the fourth on an error and a double by Josh Overbeck. Kramer then led off the seventh with a double and came home on a single by Collin Ohnesorge. But the final two outs came on a fly ball and a ground out.

At Dieterich

Dieterich had eight hits and took advantage of three St. Anthony errors for a 6-2 National Trail Conference victory.

The Movin' Maroons pushed ahead 2-0 in the first inning. Goedde led off with a single and stole second. A sacrifice by McClain moved Goedde to third. Thoele drew a walk and stole second. Poe singled, bringing both runners home.

The lead went to 5-0 in the fourth. Esker and Schmidt led off the frame with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice by P. Thoele moved both runners over. Goedde drew a walk and McClain reached on an error. Poe doubled and when the dust had cleared, the Maroons led 5-0.

St. Anthony scored its two runs in the fifth inning. With one out, Colin Koester was hit by a pitch. Bryar Jansen singled. An error, another hit by pitch and a walk gave the Bulldogs two runs.

Drew Gibson doubled in the seventh with two outs but the final out came on a grounder.

At Dieterich

At Kinmundy

South Central played host to Brownstown/St. Elmo and nabbed a 10-3 victory Thursday.

The Cougars moved ahead 2-1 in the first then had a five-run fifth. BSE came back with two in the top of the sixth but the Cougars scored three more in the bottom of the frame.

Harmeier led South Central with two singles and a double while Hill added a single and double

BSE dropped to 1-6 in the NTC, 8-9 overall.
