Altamont Beats St. A, Area Baseball Roundup

Altamont High School broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run sixth and defeated Effingham St. Anthony 6-3 in National Trail Conference baseball competition Tuesday.

Altamont edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead. Nick Miller led off the game with a single. With one out, Miller came home on a double by Klaiton Wolff. Wolff scored on a single by Devan Guerrettaz.

The Bulldogs came back with a run in the bottom of the first. Bryar Jansen led off the frame with a single, took second on wild pitch and third on a passed ball. He scored on a ground out by Ben Mendella.

Altamont moved ahead 3-1 in the top of the fourth. Guerrettaz singled and Branden Hosick drew a walk. Alex Biggs had a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over. Kolby Pemberton drew a walk to load the bases. A ground out by N. Miller scored Guerrettaz.

The Bulldogs tied the score in the bottom of the frame. Mendella led off with a single and took second on an error. Drew Gibson reached on a fielder's choice and an error. Greg Utz was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ethan Greene reached on an error and a run scored. Will Clausius reached on a fielder's choice and the second run scored.

Altamont came back in the sixth to push ahead 6-3. With two outs, Pemberton drew a walk and stole second. He came home on a double by N. Miller. N. Miller scored on a single by Caden Miller. C. Miller came home on a single by Wyatt Vaughn and that's where the scoring ended.

The Indians are now 4-1 in the NTC, 7-2 overall. St. Anthony drops to 2-1 in the conference, 6-4 overall.

At Dieterich

South Central edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-1 over Dieterich after four. The Cougars tallied one final run for a 3-1 National Trail Conference win.

South Central had eight hits in the contest led by Geiler with two singles, a double and an RBI. Dieterich had five singles by five different players.

Matheny picked up the five-hit pitching win, allowing four walks and striking out four.

At Brownstown

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a 13-10 National Trail Conference win over Brownstown/St. Elmo. The game was called in the top of the seventh inning due to darkness and the game reverted back to the score after six complete innings.

Hutchinson and Kramer had a single and home run each for the winners. Moschenrose had three singles and Kessler two singles and a double.

BSE was led by Isaac Maxey with two singles and a double and Cole Horner and Dalton Denton with a single and double each. BSE drops to 1-4 in the NTC, 3-7 overall.

North Clay (Louisville) stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and went on to beat Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 14-10.

The Cardinals banged out 10 hits in the contest and were aided by four BCCH errors. VanDyke had a single, double and four RBI for the winners while Repking had four singles and four RBI. Zimmerman added two singles.

BCCH was led by Grove, Rexroad, Sandiford and Nohren with a single each.
