Friday High School Baseball Results; Schedule for North Clay Fall Showcase

Both the St. Anthony Bulldogs and the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes remained undefeated after Friday high school baseball action.

St. Anthony won over Altamont, 4-1, at Evergreen Hollow Park.  Ben Hecht improved to 4-0 with the win, and Hankins took the loss for the Indians.  St. Anthony is now 11-0 on the fall, 6-0 in the National Trail Conference and will play Saturday in the North Clay Showcase against Woodlawn at 11:30am.  They're back in conference play on Tuesday at 4:30pm vs. South Central at Kinmundy.

Meanwhile, Teutopolis won over Putnam County 3-2.  The Shoes took a 1-0 lead in the second.  Putnam County tied the game in the fifth but Teutopolis got the lead back with a run in the bottom of the inning and then scored in the sixth to go ahead 3-1.  Putnam County scored in the top of the seventh, but the Shoes' Michael Gillespie then shut the door.

Gillespie went the distance, allowing three hits and walking one while racking up 17 strikeouts.  At the plate for the Shoes, Jared Waldhoff singled twice, Chase Wendling singled and scored, Alex Goldstein doubled and singled and scored, Justin Kenter singled twice and drove in a run, Michael Gillespie drove in a run, and John Ungrund singled and scored.

The Wooden Shoes are now 11-0 on the fall and play South Central in the North Clay Showcase today at 4:30pm at Louisville.

Stewardson-Strasburg won over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick, 8-1, using a five-run seventh inning to put the game away.  Christian Vonderheide got the win on a three-hitter, striking out 17 while not walking a batter.  The only run allowed by Vonderheide was unearned.  Austin Rexroad took the loss.

At the plate for Stew-Stras: Jones was 1 for 4 and scored twice; Kramer was 1 for 4, scored and drove in a run; Vonderheide was 2 for 4 and scored twice; Theis was 2 for 4, scored and drove in two runs; Fulk was 1 for 3, scored and drove in a run; Bugger was 2 for 4; Ohnesorge scored and drove in a run; Helton was 1 for 3 and drove in a run.

At the plate for BCCH: McKay was 1 for 3 and scored; Riley doubled and drove in a run; Rexroad was 1 for 3.

Stew-Stras plays Putnam County Saturday night at 7pm at Grimes Field in Mattoon.  BCCH is next in action Monday vs. Mulberry Grove in the Egyptian Illini Conference Tournament at Vandalia at 4:15pm.

Windsor blanked St. Elmo Friday, 3-1.  White pitched a three-hit shutout, walking three and fanning 11.  Connor Beasley took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine.  The Blue Devils scored in the first, third and seventh innings to post the win.

At the plate for Windsor: Allen singled twice and doubled; Stremming singled; Cole homered and singled and drove in a run; Leasher homered and drove in a run.

At the plate for St. Elmo: Parks, Bartels and Flowers were each 1 for 3.

St. Elmo is next in action Monday at Stew-Stras to finish a suspended game from September 7.
