The Junior American Legion State Baseball Tournament begins Thursday. Two area teams will be competing.

Shelby County Posts #289/611/725 will be competing, as will Newton Post #20. The tournament will be held in Quincy.

Newton advanced through the Fifth Division Tournament in Salem, while Shelby County qualified at the Fourth Division Tournament in Rantoul.

Jim Hutchinson is head coach of the Shelby County squad, while John Grunloh coaches the Post #20 team.

Shelby County will see its first action Thursday at 11am against Fairview Heights, while Post #20 will play its first game against Danville Post #210 Gold at 3pm. If the squads win their first games Thursday, they would next play on Friday. If they lose Thursday, they would play again later that day.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
