Kaskaskia Hosts Division 24 Baseball Championship

After winning the Division 24 Baseball Championship for the second time in three years, Kaskaskia Community College will be hosting the Northern District Championship this weekend at Larry Smith Field on its own campus.

Kaskaskia advanced by beating Southwest Illinois College of Belleville 2-1 and J.A. Logan of Carterville 7-3 last weekend at Rent One ballpark in Marion.

K. C. will open play Friday at noon against South Suburban of Chicago

The 3 p.m. game Friday will feature Lincoln Trail of Robinson against Iowa Western of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Iowa Western is the defending champion of Division I community colleges and is currently ranked No. 3 with a 32 game winning streak.

Kaskaskia is coached by former Teutopolis athlete Mitch Koester, who is completing his seventh year as head coach. Assisting Mitch is Pitching Coach Marcus Wilson from Arthur and Brandon Knowling.

In seven years, Koester has won more Division 24 D1 baseball championships than any other coach.
