Jung Ho Kang has gotten off to a fast start for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kang went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 on Sunday.

With the game tied 3-3, Kang hit a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning that helped the Pirates take two of three from St. Louis. The Cardinals lost their first series of the season.

"It's very meaningful that we won against the Cardinals," Kang said. "I hope that we carry this on and all the players are on the same page moving forward."

Kang hit his second home run of the season in the first inning, a shot to left field off a 0-2 fastball left over the middle of the plate from St. Louis left-hander Tyler Lyons. Kang's home run gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead. Kang, who played in South Korea last season, is batting .333 in his rookie season in the majors.

Brewers 3, Cubs 2

Martin Maldonado gave his mother a day to remember. First, the Milwaukee Brewers catcher hit a home run with his mom, Jeannette, watching in the stands at Miller Park. Then, Maldonado singled over the Cubs' drawn-in outfield with one out in the 11th inning to give Milwaukee a 3-2 win Sunday over Chicago.

"I couldn't be happier that I have my mom here on Mother's Day, first time," Maldonado said. "I love you, mom."

Maldonado also hit a solo homer in the seventh in what was a memorable end to Craig Counsell's first week as manager since taking over for the fired Ron Roenicke.

White Sox 4, Reds 3

Gordon Beckham is going to have a memorable present for his mom for Mother's Day. Beckham hit a game-winning single against Aroldis Chapman in the ninth as the Chicago White Sox beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 on Sunday.

After going hitless in his first four at-bats, Beckham was able to make contact on a 100 mph fastball from Chapman for the game-winning hit. Beckham was using a pink bat in honor of Mother's Day.

"Mom was very fortunate today. I was about to throw that bat threw a window somewhere, but it came through, so I guess she'll get a present now from that bat, I guess," said Beckham.

Beckham now plans on sending the bat to his mother, Sully.
