Finally, Cole Hamels got a few runs to work with. The Philadelphia Phillies put some key hits in the right places and the lefty won for the first time in seven starts dating to last September in a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.

"You just know that you don't have to be as precise," Hamels said. "You can kind of let the ball go a little bit and see what happens."

Ben Revere's two-run double just inside the foul line in left field in the seventh inning was the go-ahead hit for the Phillies, who have won three of four.

Philadelphia manager Ryne Sandberg left Hamels (1-2) in to sacrifice in the seventh to give the pitcher a shot at ending his winless skid. Besides the bunt that moved up the runners for Revere, Hamels retired his final seven batters in order, finishing with 114 pitches.

Cubs 4, Pirates 0

With each win, the Chicago Cubs seem to gain a little bit more confidence. Kris Bryant drove in two runs, Jason Hammel threw eight sharp innings and the Cubs beat Pittsburgh 4-0 Monday night, ending the Pirates' five-game winning streak. Chicago won its third straight. Back home after a 4-2 road trip, the Cubs are showing signs that this year might be different than the previous five losing seasons.

"We know what we have in the clubhouse," Hammel said. "We're excited and it starts with (manager) Joe (Maddon). ... He came in and made us know that we were going to have a good time while we were winning."

Bryant has been a part of that recently, getting two more hits, including a two-run single. The prized rookie has nine RBIs in 10 games since being called up from the minors, and is gaining respect from whoever he faces.

White Sox, Orioles Game Postponed

The Baltimore Orioles' home game against the Chicago White Sox was postponed Monday night because of safety concerns after riots broke out near Camden Yards following the funeral of Freddie Gray.

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, at the stadium for a previously planned visit, said Tuesday night's game between the Orioles and White Sox could be moved -- possibly to Nationals Park in Washington -- if safety continued to be an issue.
