EHS Drops Game To Mount Zion, T-town Suffers Loss

Effingham High School built an early lead Saturday against Mount Zion but the Braves roared back to steal a 5-2 baseball victory.

While the Flaming Hearts led until the sixth inning, Mount Zion worked its way back and took the lead on an error.

Swayde Sanders reached base two times in the game for the Hearts. He scored one run and had one RBI. He homered in the second inning. The bottom of the first saw the Hearts take the lead 1-0 on a double by Carter Hayes bringing home Braydon Bone.

EHS built on that lead with another run in the second. Mount Zion came back with a run in the fourth and tied in the fifth. The Braves then pushed ahead in the sixth and added on two insurance runs in the seventh.

Mount Zion had 10 hits while the Hearts had five. Sanders led with a home run and an RBI while Michael Woltman added a single and double and Hayes a double and an RBI. EHS drops to 7-8 on the season.

The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.

At Nashville

Teutopolis saw its second loss in a row as the Wooden Shoes fell to Nashville 3-2 Saturday.

The score was knotted at 1-1 after four innings and T-town held a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Nashville then tied the score in the bottom of the frame and brought home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

T-town had six hits led by Hartke with a single and double and Flach with a double.

The second game was played to a 5-5 tie. T-town scored two in the top of the sixth to lead 7-5 but with one out in the bottom of the inning, lightning hit and the rain started to end the contest. The score then reverted back to the last completed inning.

The Shoes are now 11-4-1 on the season.

At Windsor

Argenta-Oreana came calling and captured a 13-3 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday.

Argenta-Oreana outhit WSS 10-6. Austin Welker had a double, home run and three RBI while Austin Brown had a double, triple and two RBI. Grififn Sparks chipped in with three singles and three RBI.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Josh Overbeck with a solo home run, Chase Thies with a single and double and Devon Deremiah with a double.
