Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run homer off Kyle Lohse, and Jason Hammel allowed one run in five innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 11-7 Wednesday.

Tommy La Stella homered starting the third, Dexter Fowler walked, Jorge Soler singled and Rizzo sent an 0-2 pitch from Lohse over the left-field fence. Fowler hit a two-run homer in the fourth off Lohse, who allowed seven runs, eight hits and four walks in four innings. Jorge Soler hit a two-run homer off Will Smith in the fifth.

Hammel gave up six hits, struck out five and walked none. The right-hander, who will pitch either the Cubs' second or third game, pronounced himself happy with the spring.

Cardinals 5, Mets 2

Carlos Martinez pitched six scoreless innings and Jhonny Peralta drove in two runs as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Mets 5-2 Wednesday. Martinez, the Cardinals' fifth starter, scattered three hits, struck out five and walked one.

"I worked better today and I felt better than any other start," Martinez said through a translator. "My changeup was my best pitch, I feel, and my slider was my best pitch after my changeup."

Mets opening-day starter Bartolo Colon allowed three runs and six hits in five innings, struck out two and walked one.

Padres 8, White Sox 2 (SS)

James Shields allowed three hits in three scoreless innings, Jedd Gyorko hit a three-run homer in a five-run first inning against Jeff Samardzija, and the San Diego Padres beat a Chicago White Sox split squad 8-2 Wednesday in the final game of the Cactus League season at Camelback Ranch. Shields struck out two and walked none in what he said was an "ideal" length for a tuneup before Monday's opener at the Los Angeles Dodgers, who will start NL MVP Clayton Kershaw.

White Sox 12, Mariners 4 (SS)

Avisail Garcia homered among his three hits and drove in four runs, Jose Abreu added to his sizzling spring training with two more hits and a Chicago White Sox split squad beat the Seattle Mariners 12-4 on Wednesday. Abreu raised his spring training-leading batting average to .518 (29 for 56). Melky Cabrera added a two-run double, Jeremy Farrell had four hits including a two-run home run and White Sox second baseman Carlos Sanchez, who will be on the opening-day roster after a very good spring at the plate, had four hits and two RBIs.
