EHS, St. A, Neoga, T-town Nab Baseball Victories

Newton High School held a 1-0 lead until the third inning before Effingham broke loose and went on for an 11-1 victory in five innings via the 10-run rule in baseball action Monday.

The Hearts tallied five runs in the third then pushed across four more in the fourth and ended the contest with two in the fifth.

EHS had seven hits in the contest and was aided by five Newton errors. Braydon Bone and Eli Buhrman had a double each. Burhman drove in a run. Brennan Poland and Hudson Graham had two singles and two RBI each.

The Eagles had three hits, singles by Mitch Bierman, Mitch Jansen and Blake Probst. Bierman drove in a run. Lane Koenig picked up the pitching win for EHS allowing two hits, issued one walk and struck out four. Poland came on to pitch the final two innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two.

At Effingham

At Olney

This was a hitting contest as St. Anthony banged out 19 and Olney 18 hits. The Bulldogs outlasted the Tigers to claim a 17-8 victory.

Olney took a 5-1 opening inning lead and led 7-6 after two. The Bulldogs then had a 9-1 run over the next two innings and tallied a final run in the seventh for the win.

Drew Gibson had three singles, a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Braden Puckett chipped in with two singles, a double and two RBI and James Kabbes two singles, a triple and three RBI. Bryar Jansen had three singles and two RBI, Jacob Lorenz two singles and Greg Utz, a single, home run and four RBI.

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes pushed into a 2-0 first inning lead and claimed a 9-1 win over Sullivan in action Monday.

T-town had a six-run fourth inning and finished with six hits in the contest. Johnson led with a double and drove in two runs. Kreke had a single and two RBI.

Niemerg picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out five.

Guy Walk pitched a one-hitter with four strikeouts as Neoga claimed a 1-0 win over North Clay (Louisville).

Walk went 4 2/3 innings and was relieved by Matt Kingery who picked up the save. Zach Monroe had the lone extra base hit for the Indians with a double and an RBI.

At Pana

All five runs in this game were scored in the final inning as Pana edged Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 3-2.

The Panthers tallied three in the top of the inning with two outs on two passed balls and a wild pitch. BCCH came back with two in the bottom of the frame, only to fall short. The Eagles had runners on second and third when the game ended on a strikeout.

Hunter Seaton had the lone extra base hit of the game for BCCH with a double. The game was the season opener for both teams and was moved to Pana due to wet field conditions at Beecher City.

Shelbyville's Tyler Hendryx pitched a no-hitter against Dieterich for a 3-0 victory Monday. Hendryx finished with 15 strikeouts in the contest.

The Rams didn't score until the fourth inning then took a 1-0 lead and tacked on two more in the sixth.
