(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cardinals are avoiding salary arbitration by agreeing on a two-year contract with outfielder Jon Jay. The deal runs through the 2016 season. The 29-year-old hit a team-leading .303 last year with three home runs and 46 RBI. Jay is a career .295 hitter in five seasons with the Cardinals.


Shields Signs With Padres

(San Diego, CA) -- Free-agent pitcher James Shields has reportedly signed with the Padres. SB Nation reports the four-year pact is worth as much as $76-million. The Cubs were reportedly one of the teams vying for the veteran's services.
