Effingham Nabs E.I.T. Championship

In opening round play of the Effingham Invitational Tournament, Effingham trounced Casey-Westfield 13-2 and Oblong edged Sullivan 8-7 in eight innings.

Effingham took a 1-0 first inning lead but Casey-Westfield regained the lead in the second 2-1. The Mustangs regained the lead in the bottom of the second with three runs then tacked on four in the third and five in the fourth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Donaldson pitched a three-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts. Effingham was led by Beals with a single, triple and four RBI. C. Hull and Huelsbusch had two singles each. Huelsbusch added an RBI.

Effingham then took on Oblong for the championship and won easily 12-2 in five innings. Effingham jumped out to a 6-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

The Mustangs had 13 hits in the contest led by Bateman with two singles, a double and an RBI, Sandifer with two home runs and four RBI, M. Hull with a double, triple and two RBI and Koester with a single, double and two RBI.

Third place went to Sullivan 14-2 over Casey-Westfield.

Efifngham is now 8-1 on the season and is back in action today against Charleston.
