Cardinals Down Dodgers To Advance To NLCS

(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are onto the National League Championship Series for the fourth straight season. Matt Adams clubbed a go-ahead, three-run homer off Clayton Kershaw in the seventh inning to lift the Cards to a 3-2 win over the Dodgers in Game Four of their NLDS at Busch Stadium. St. Louis wins the best-of-five series three-games-to-one.

Shelby Miller pitched 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball in a no-decision. Marco Gonzalez got the win with a scoreless inning of relief and Trevor Rosenthal nailed it down in the ninth for his third save of the series. Kershaw struck out nine while allowing just four hits in six-plus innings to take the loss, his second of the series.  Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning on Matt Kemp's double-play grounder and Juan Uribe's RBI single.  The Cardinals will play the San Francisco Giants in the NLCS starting Saturday.


Giants Edge Nationals, Advance To NLCS

(San Francisco, CA) -- The San Francisco Giants are heading to the National League Championship Series for the third time in five years. Joe Panik scored on a wild pitch by Aaron Barrett in the seventh as the Giants edged the Washington Nationals 3-2 at AT&T Park in Game Four of the National League Division Series. Panik also drove in a run on a groundout in the second after Gregor Blanco drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run.

Ryan Vogelsong pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball in the start while Hunter Strickland earned the win and Santiago Casilla notched the save. San Francisco will face the St. Louis Cardinals for a trip to the World Series starting Saturday. Bryce Harper drove in both runs for Washington, with one coming on a solo homer into McCovey Cove in the seventh. Gio Gonzalez gave up two unearned runs in four innings while Matt Thornton was charged with the loss.


Cubs' Mueller Resigns, Manny Not A Replacement

(Chicago, IL) -- Bill Mueller won't return next season as Cubs hitting coach. He has resigned just over a week after assistant hitting coach Mike Brumley was fired. ESPN reports Manny Ramirez is not an option to replace Mueller. Ramirez spent time this season as a player-coach with Triple-A Iowa.
