National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Opens

The National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament got underway Monday evening. Picking up victories were Effingham St. Anthony, South Central, Altamont and Neoga.

The tournament continues Wednesday with South Central meeting St. Anthony at 4:30 p.m. followed by Altamont taking on Neoga at 7 p.m. at Paul Smith Field. In consolation bracket action Wednesday, Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick faces Dieterich at 4:15 and Brownstown/St. Elmo meets Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 7 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park.

St. Anthony 5, Dieterich 0

The two teams went scoreless until the fourth when the Bulldogs broke loose with three runs then tacked on two more in the fifth.

Dieterich outhit St. Anthony 6-4. A. Bohnhoff had three singles for the Maroons. St. Anthony was led by Utz with two singles and two RBI. Puckett had a single and an RBI while Jansen had an RBI.

The Cougars tallied all three of its runs in the fifth inning to beat Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick.

Peters picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and three walks. Smith had two singles and an RBI for the Cougars while Harmeier and Ratermann had two singles each. Markley added a double.

The Cougars are now 12-3 on the season.

At Evergreen Park

Altamont blanked Brownstown/St. Elmo 5-0. The Indians tallied two runs in the second and three in the sixth.

Caden Miller picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts. N. Miller and K. Wolff had a double each. Guerrattaz had three singles.

BSE was led by Drake Hall with a single and double. BSE drops to 6-10 on the season.
