Cubs Top Brewers In Season Finale

(Milwaukee, WI) -- Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run home run and finished with three hits as the Cubs knocked off the Brewers 5-2 from Miller Park. Arismendy Alcantara added two RBI and Chris Coghlan drove in a run in the win. Jacob Turner improved to 6-11 with five-plus innings of two-run ball, and Hector Rondon notched his 29th save. The Cubs finish the season at 73-89. Milwaukee was held to five hits in the defeat with Jonathan Lucroy collecting two. Elian Herrera recorded the lone RBI. Mike Fiers fell to 6-5 after allowing three earned runs in six frames. The Brewers conclude the season at 82-80.


Cardinals Edge Diamondbacks

Five pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout to lead the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Justin Masterson improved to 3-3 with the win and Carlos Martinez closed it out for the save. Kolten Wong plated the game's lone run. St. Louis finishes the year 90-72 and will take on the Dodgers in the NLDS starting Friday. Josh Collmenter took a tough loss for Arizona, surrendering just one run in eight innings of work. Cliff Pennington tallied the only two hits for the Diamondbacks, who finish the year a league-worst 64-98

The Cardinals begin the best-of-five National League Division Series Friday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The Dodgers will host the first two games before the series shifts to St. Louis for Game Three a week from today and a potential Game Four the next day. If necessary, LA would host Game Five October 9.


Royals Top White Sox In Konerko's Finale

(Chicago, IL) -- Christian Colon knocked in two runs to power the Royals to a 6-4 win over the White Sox in Chicago. Salvador Perez also drove in a run as the Royals finished the season 89-and-73 and with the AL's top Wild Card spot. They will play the Athletics on Tuesday with the winner advancing to the ALDS against the Angels. Casey Coleman picked up the win while Louis Coleman notched the save. Marcus Semien hit a two-run homer and knocked in three runs for Chicago, which ends the year 73-89. Paul Konerko ended his 18-year career with an 0-for-3 performance. Daniel Webb took the loss.


Reds Beat Pirates, Pittsburgh Settles For Wild Card

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Kris Negron went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs as the Reds topped the Pirates 4-1 at Great American Ball Park. Todd Frazier also drove in a run along with Johnny Cueto, who improved to 20-and-9 with eight innings of one-run ball. Aroldis Chapman notched his 36th save as Cincinnati finishes the year at 76-86. Neil Walker went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for Pittsburgh, which will settle for hosting the NL Wild Card game. Gerrit Cole struck out 12 over seven innings of one-run ball while Tony Watson took the loss. The Bucs finish the year at 88-and-74.


Braves Edge Phillies

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Emilio Bonifacio hit a solo homer to lead off the game and the Braves went on to a 2-1 win over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.  Freddie Freeman also drove in a run for Atlanta, which ends the year at 79-83. Luis Avilan recorded the win in relief while Craig Kimbrel notched his 47th save. Cole Hamels fell to 9-9 after giving up two runs in eight innings for Philadelphia. Hamels also had two hits at the plate for the Phils, who end the year at 73-89.


Zimmermann, Nationals No-Hit Marlins

(Washington, DC) -- Jordan Zimmermann tossed a no-hitter to lead the Nationals in a 1-0 win over the Marlins in DC. The game ended on an incredible diving catch by left fielder Steven Souza, Jr. to preserve the first no-hitter in Nats history. Zimmermann struck out ten and walked one while improving to 14-5. Ian Desmond hit a solo homer to account for the lone run in the second inning. Washington finishes the season at 96-66 as NL East champs. Henderson Alvarez allowed one run over seven innings and fell to 12-7 for Miami. Alvarez threw his own no-hitter on the final day of the regular season in 2013. The Fish end the year at 77-85.


Dodgers Double Up Rockies To End Season

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Adrian Gonzalez and Roger Bernadina both blasted a three-run home run to lead the Dodgers to a 10-5 victory over the Rockies at Chavez Ravine. Matt Kemp added a two-run shot and Darwin Barney went 2-for-5 with an RBI as LA finishes the season 94-and-68 after winning its final five. Zack Greinke struck out six in five frames of one-run ball to pick up his 17th win. The Dodgers will face the Cardinals in the NLDS starting Friday. Christian Bergman got tagged for seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to fall to 3-5 for Colorado, which ends the year 66-96. Wilin Rosario belted a solo homer and Rafael Ynoa batted in three runs in defeat.


Indians Roll Past Rays

(Cleveland, OH) -- David Murphy and Zach Walters homered as the Indians downed the Rays 7-2 at Progressive Field. Jose Ramirez went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Carlos Santana drove in two. T.J. House pitched five innings of one-run ball as Cleveland ends the year at 85-77. Alex Cobb gave up four runs over six innings and fell to 10-9 for Tampa Bay. Sean Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a solo homer as the Rays finish the season at 77-85.


Orioles Upend Blue Jays

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Jonathan Schoop hit a solo homer in the fifth as the Orioles edged the Blue Jays 1-0 at Rogers Centre. Miguel Gonzalez improved to 10-9 with five scoreless innings while four relievers bridged the gap to Zach Britton, who notched his 37th save. Baltimore heads into the postseason as AL East champs after a 96-66 season and will face the Tigers in the ALDS. R.A. Dickey dropped to 14-13 after six innings of one-run ball. Ryan Goins tripled for Toronto, which ends the year at 83-and-79.


Tigers Beat Twins, Clinch AL Central

(Detroit, MI) -- The Tigers are AL Central champions for the fourth straight year after a 3-0 win over the Twins at Comerica Park. Ian Kinsler was 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI while Torii Hunter added a sac-fly in the win. David Price tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts to move to 15-12 while Joe Nathan notched his 35th save. Detroit finishes the season 90-72 and will face the Orioles in the ALDS. Kyle Gibson gave up three runs over 7 1/3 innings for Minnesota and fell to 13-12. The Twins end the season at 70-92.


Yankees Down Red Sox In Jeter's Finale

(Boston, MA) -- Derek Jeter went 1-for-2 with an RBI single in his final game as the Yankees dropped the Red Sox 9-5 at Fenway Park. Jeter was lifted in the third inning for a pinch runner and exited to a standing ovation from the Boston crowd. Ichiro Suzuki and Jose Pirela each had two RBI for New York, which ended the year at 84-78. Michael Pineda struck out ten over 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball to improve to 5-5. Clay Buchholz gave up four runs in six frames and fell to 8-11 for Boston. Mookie Betts had two hits and two RBI while Dan Butler knocked in two as the Red Sox finished the year with a 71-91 mark.


Athletics Lock Up Wild Card With Win Over Rangers

(Arlington, TX) -- Sonny Gray fired a complete game shutout as the Athletics topped the Rangers 4-0 at Globe Life Park. Gray struck out five and allowed six hits to improve to 14-and-10.  Jed Lowrie drove in two in the win. The win locks up a Wild Card spot for the Athletics as they end the regular season at 88-74. Oakland will take on Kansas City on Tuesday in the American League Wild Card Game. Nick Martinez allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings for the loss. The Rangers finish at 67-95.


Mariners Top Angels

(Seattle, WA) -- The Mariners did their part to try and force a Wild Card tie-breaker with a 4-1 win over the Angels in Seattle. The M's were eliminated from postseason contention when the Athletics won earlier on Sunday. Felix Hernandez struck out seven over 5 1/3 innings of one-hit ball for his 15th win. The scoreless innings give "King Felix" the AL ERA title. Cory Rasmus allowed two runs in the start for the loss. Los Angeles hosts the winner of the Wild Card Game between the A's and Royals in the ALDS.


Mets Finish Year With Win Over Astros

(Flushing, NY) -- Lucas Duda blasted a two-run home run and totaled four RBI to lead the Mets to an 8-3 victory over the Astros at Citi Field. Ruben Tejada also belted a two-run shot for New York, which won six of its last nine to finish 79-83. Bartolo Colon threw six innings of three-run ball to pick up his 15th win. Max Stassi went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Jose Altuve plated a run for Houston. Nick Tropeano got tagged for four runs in five frames for the loss for the Astros, who end the year 70-92.
