St. A Takes Two at Louisville Showcase, Area Baseball Roundup

LOUISVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony High School nabbed two baseball victories in the Louisville Showcase Saturday.

The Bulldogs downed Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 13-3 in five innings via the 10-run rule. St. Anthony took a 2-0 first inning lead. BCCH took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth but the Bulldogs came back strong in the bottom of the frame, tallying seven runs then had a four-run fifth.

Braden Puckett had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Zach Gardewne had a single, double and four RBI and Kyle Bourgeois a single, double and an RBI. Taylor Sears and Drew Gibson chipped in with two singles and two RBI each.

BCCH was led by Zane Brandt with the lone hit, a single.

In the second contest, it was home run power as Jacob Lorenz connected on two home runs, going three-for-three in the contest. He drove in two RBI by homering in the first and third innings as the Bulldogs edged North Clay (Louisville) 3-2.

St. Anthony took the lead in the seventh and held on. The Bulldogs went up for good on an RBI single by Drew  Gibson, plating Greg Utz.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Ramsey 5-0 in action Saturday.

Windsor/Stew-Stras took a 2-0 first inning lead. The Blue Devils had eight hits in the contesst led by Josh Overbeck with a single and triple, Nic Hutchinson with a douible and Mark Jones with two singles and two RBI.

Tyler Kemper was the winning pitcher on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

At Windsor

At Ramsey

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick was to host Ramsey but the game was moved because of wet grounds to Ramsey. BCCH picked up the victory in a rain-shortened contest that ended after 4 1/2 innings with BCCH ahead 12-3.

Westen Giles pitched the victory allowing three hits and striking out six. Austin Rexroad and Giles had a single and double each. Rexroad had three RBI while Giles had one. Zane Brandt and Jackson Bales had two singles each. Brandt added an RBI.

BCCH is now 2-1 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference, 2-7 overall.

At Ramsey
