Cueto Outduels Lynn As Reds Blank Cardinals

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Johnny Cueto and Aroldis Chapman combined on a three-hitter as the Reds edged the Cardinals 1-0 at Great American Ball Park. Cueto fanned seven while allowing three hits and one walk over eight innings to improve to 18-8. Chapman worked the ninth for his 33rd save Cincinnati took three of four in the series. Ramon Santiago plated the lone run of the game with a bloop to center that turned into a force play at second base, but scored Brandon Phillips in the bottom of the eighth. Lance Lynn allowed just three hits in a complete-game loss to fall to 15-9 for St. Louis.

The Cardinals and Reds took part in a special tribute as all of Major League Baseball remembered the anniversary of 9-11. The victims and heroes were honored in a pre-game ceremony that included a moment of silence. All players wore American flag patches on their hats as well.

The Cardinals are back home tonight as they open their final homestand of the season. Colorado is in first for a three-game series. Adam Wainwright seeks his 18th win for St. Louis, while Jorge De La Rosa starts for the Rockies. The Cards will also play the Brewers and Reds on this stand.
