Cubs Edge Orioles, Complete Weekend Sweep

(Chicago, IL) -- Former Oriole farmhand Tsuyoshi Wada took a no-hitter into the seventh to lead the Cubs in a 2-1 win over Baltimore at Wrigley Field, completing a three-game weekend sweep. Wada completed six-and-a-third innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts to improve to 4-1 while Hector Rondon notched his 21st save. Arismendy Alcantara was 2-for-3 with a solo homer while Anthony Rizzo had an RBI double as Chicago won its sixth in eight games. Miguel Gonzalez gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings, falling to 6-7 for the Orioles. Steve Pearce had the lone hit for the O's, a solo homer to break up Wada's no-hit bid. The Birds saw their AL East lead trimmed to six games after starting the weekend up nine.


Phillies Blow Away Cardinals

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Jimmy Rollins hit a two-run homer to power the Phillies in a 7-1 win over the Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park. Ben Revere finished 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs as Philadelphia won its fourth in six games. Jerome Williams tossed eight innings of one-run ball to move to 2-and-0.  Justin Masterson was tagged for five runs over three frames, falling to 2-2 for St. Louis. Jhonny Peralta was 2-for-3 with a double and a run while Oscar Taveras knocked in a run. The Cards had won five of six.


McCann's Blast Lifts Yankees Past White Sox

(Bronx, NY) -- Brian McCann hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the tenth to send the Yankees to a 7-4 walkoff win over the White Sox in the Bronx.  Ichiro Suzuki was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Carlos Beltran crossed home twice. Chris Capuano tossed six innings of three-run ball while David Huff earned the win.  New York has won four straight. Chris Sale pitched six innings and allowed four unearned runs for Chicago while Jake Petricka took the loss.  Conor Gillaspie hit a two-run homer while Avisail Garcia and Alexei Ramirez added solo shots. The Sox have lost six straight.


Reds Rip Braves

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Zack Cozart was 3-for-4 with two RBI to carry the Reds to a 5-3 win over the Braves at Great American Ball Park. Todd Frazier scored twice and hit a solo homer for Cincinnati, which has won two straight. Alfredo Simon gave up a run in seven innings for the win while Jonathan Broxton picked up his seventh save. Aaron Harang gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings for the loss. Evan Gattis knocked his 20th homer of the year for Atlanta, which has lost three of five.


Nationals Knock Off Giants

(Washington, DC) -- Bryce Harper and Danny Espinosa each hit a two-run homer to power the Nationals to a 14-6 win over the Giants from D.C. Ian Desmond also went deep for Washington, which took two of three in the series. Desmond and Adam LaRoche had two RBI each for the Nats. Stephen Strasburg allowed five runs in the start while Craig Stammen picked up the win. Gregor Blanco and Travis Ishikawa hit homers for San Francisco. Ryan Vogelsong gave up three runs in 5 1/3 innings, but Jeremy Affeldt took the loss.


Brewers Beat Pirates

(Milwaukee, WI) -- Aramis Ramirez was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI as the Brewers beat the Pirates 4-3 from Miller Park. Jonathan Lucroy also had a run and a run knocked in for Milwaukee, which snapped a three-game skid. Mike Fiers picked up the win after seven innings of two-run ball. Francisco Rodriguez locked up his 39th save. Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen each went deep for Pittsburgh, which had won three straight. Vance Worley gave up four runs in 6 1/3 innings for the loss.


Mets Cruise Past Dodgers

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Lucas Duda went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI to guide the Mets to an 11-3 win over the Dodgers in at Dodger Stadium. Travis d'Arnaud jacked a solo shot and Ruben Tejada had a two-run homer as New York avoided the three-game sweep at the hands of Los Angeles. Bartolo Colon gave up two runs in six innings of work to improve to 12-10 with the win. Kevin Correia got hammered for five earned runs in just three frames for his first loss since joining the Dodgers, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Dee Gordon tripled in a run in defeat.


Rockies Surge Past Marlins

(Denver, CO) -- The Rockies offense jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 7-4 win over the Marlins at Coors Field. Nolan Arenado cranked a two-run shot in the win while Michael McKenry added a solo shot. Christian Bergman allowed four runs in six-and-a-third innings for his first career win and LaTroy Hawkins locked down his 20th save. The Rockies have won three of four. Brad Hand took the loss after giving up four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. Giancarlo Stanton and Jeff Mathis plated a run each for Miami, which has dropped three of its last four.


Indians Get Past Astros

(Cleveland, OH) -- Trevor Bauer struck out nine over six shutout innings as the Indians downed the Astros 3-1 at Progressive Field. Bauer improved to 5-7 while Cody Allen notched his 17th save. Jose Ramirez was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Lonnie Chisenhall went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Cleveland has won nine of its last 13 games. Jon Singleton was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for Houston. Brett Oberholtzer gave up three runs across 6 2/3 innings while fanning six to fall to 4-9. The Astros have lost three of four.


Rays Edge Blue Jays In Extras

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Evan Longoria's RBI single in the top of the tenth lifted the Rays in a 2-1 win over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Longoria also drove in a run in the first while Ben Zobrist reached base three times and scored both runs. Chris Archer struck out six over seven innings of one-run ball while Jake McGee earned the win and Brad Boxberger notched his second save. Tampa Bay has won three out of four. Drew Hutchison struck out seven across six innings of one-run ball for Toronto. Juan Francisco's sac-fly in the seventh provided the lone run for the Jays, who have lost four of six.


Mariners Top Red Sox For Sweep

(Boston, MA) -- Dustin Ackley fell a home run short of the cycle and scored three times as the Mariners topped the Red Sox 8-6 at Fenway Park. Kyle Seager drove in two runs and Brad Miller picked up two RBI.  Miller replaced Robinson Cano, who left in the third inning with dizziness. Hisashi Iwakuma was pegged for five runs in two-and-a-third innings with Dominic Leone earning the win and Fernando Rodney grabbing his 38th save to finish a three-game sweep.  Yoenis Cespedes went 3-for-4 and drove in a run in the loss while Will Middlebrooks finished with three RBI.  Allen Webster took the loss with six runs in four-and-a-third-innings to fall to 3-2. David Ortiz left in the sixth inning after fouling a ball off his right foot as Boston dropped its eighth straight contest.


Tigers Crush Twins

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Victor Martinez tallied three hits with a two-run homer and four RBI to help the Tigers to a 13-4 over the Twins at Target Field. Torii Hunter totaled four RBI as well while Rajai Davis left the yard for Detroit. Don Kelly chipped in two RBI as the Tigers won a second straight after losing three in-a-row. Max Scherzer threw five innings to pick up his 15th win of the season.  Kyle Gibson got rocked for five runs in four-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 11-10 for Minnesota. Kennys Vargas went 3-for-5 and Danny Santana doubled in two runs in defeat.  


Rangers Drop Royals

(Arlington, TX) -- Robinson Chirinos and Adrian Beltre both went 2-for-3 with an RBI to help the Rangers to a 3-1 win over the Royals at Globe Life Park. Adam Rosales also tallied a pair of hits and doubled in a run as Texas avoided the three-game sweep. Scott Baker threw five innings of one-run ball to pick up the win and Neftali Feliz closed it out for the save. Jason Vargas gave up two earned runs and 11 hits in six innings of work to fall to 10-6 for Kansas City. Omar Infante went 2-for-4 and Billy Butler cracked a solo shot for the Royals, who lost just their fifth game in the month of August.


Angels Dump Athletics

(Oakland, CA) -- The Angles regained the best record in baseball and avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Athletics with a 9-4 win at O.co Coliseum. Los Angeles got to Oakland starter Scott Kazmir, who was charged with 10 hits and seven runs in three-plus innings. Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Later in the game, Mike Trout added a solo shot. Trout also had two hits with two runs scored, while Jered Weaver picked up his 14th win after giving up three runs with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Albert Callaspo and Andy Parrino each left the yard for Oakland, which is a game behind the Halos. Kazmir fell to 14-6.
