BEECHER CITY -- Mulberry Grove claimed the championship of the Beecher City Junior High School Baseball Tournament Saturday.

In the opening game of the day, Mulberry Grove downed host Beecher City 15-2 behind 12 hits. Beecher City committed seven errors in the contest. Mulberry Grove broke a 2-2 tie after one inning with three runs in the second then tacked on a single run in the third and nine in the fourth to put the game away.

Altamont Lutheran then blanked Effingham Sacred Heart 10-0 behind 13 hits. Altamont Lutheran crept out to a 4-0 first inning lead then never looked bank.

In the third place contest, Beecher City outlasted Sacred Heart by a 23-16 count. Beecher City slapped out 20 hits in the contest and scored in every inning.

Mulberry Grove then downed Altamont Lutheran 14-2 in the championship game. Mulberry Grove had 10 hits and took a 9-1 first inning lead. The Mulberry Grove pitcher had 11 strikeouts in the contest and allowed only two hits.

At St. Elmo

Sigel St. Michael handed St. Elmo a 9-2 loss in baseball action Saturday. St. Michael edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead then tacked on two more in the third and five in the sixth.

St. Michael won behind 10 hits. Brant Bueker had three hits and an RBI while Brock Bueker had three hits and three RBI. St. Michael is back in action Tuesday hosting Brownstown.

St. Elmo is back in action hosting Altamont Lutheran today.

At Altamont

Altamont claimed the championship of its own round robin tournament Saturday. Altamont finished 2-1 while Oblong also finished 2-1 but in the head-to-head contest, Altamont downed Oblong 10-0. Oblong took second followed by Neoga in third at 1-2 and Brownstown in fourth, also 1-2.

Altamont beat Neoga 6-0 but lost to Brownstown 12-11. In other games, Oblong defeated Neoga 7-3, Oblong blanked Brownstown 8-0 and Neoga won over Brownstown 12-3.
