Ryan Barnes tossed a shutout to lift American Legion Effingham Junior Post 120 to a 1-0 win over Dieterich Post 628 in the District Tournament at Teutopolis High School in seven innings Monday evening.

Dieterich Post 628 couldn't get anything going so long as Barnes was on the hill. Dieterich Post 628 managed just one hit off the Post 120's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out seven during his seven innings of work.

Lane Koenig was solid at the plate for Effingham. Koenig went 2-for-3 and drove in one run. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the sixth inning. Effingham's lone run of the ballgame came in the first inning on an RBI double by Koenig. Eli Buhrman also went 2-for-3 and scored the only run of the game.

Charlie Thoele ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He went six innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed one run.

The Effingham juniors play Tuesday at Teutopolis High School and will face Salem Post 128 for third place in the District Tournament. The winner of this game will advance to the State Tournament. Effingham Post 120 juniors now have a 23-11 record on the season.
