Effingham Post 120 fell to Teutopolis Post 924 in Saturday Junior Legion action while picking up a win over Newton Post 20 in a Saturday contest.
American Legion Effingham Post 120 held a comfortable four-run lead in the seventh inning of the opener, but a big comeback by Teutopolis Post 924 ended Effingham Post 120’s hopes in a 8-7 loss Saturday at Evergreen Park.
Michael Woltman lead the way by racking up two RBIs on four hits for Effingham. He singled in the first, third, fifth, and seventh innings.
C. Mette got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He tossed 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out none, walked one and surrendered two hits. Blake White was charged with the loss. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run. The top of the second saw Teutopolis Post 924 take an early lead, 2-0. Teutopolis then tacked on more runs when Althoff scored on a groundout by J Kenter.
After posting one run in the second, Effingham Post 120 again scored one in the sixth. In the second, American Legion Effingham Post 120 scored on an RBI single by Will Clausius, scoring Zach Bateman. Teutopolis Post 924 matched its one-run seventh inning with one more in the ninth. In the seventh, Teutopolis Post 924 scored on an error, bringing home J Kenter.

American Legion Effingham Post 120 and Newton Post 20 lit up the scoreboard Sunday as they combined for 19 runs. In the end, American Legion Effingham Post 120 won the offensive battle 10-9 in 10 innings. There were 21 hits, including four extra base hits in the game. The game was back-and-forth heading into the 10th, with eight lead changes.
Effingham Post 120 pulled out the win thanks to a strong 10th inning. Effingham Post 120 juniors scored on an RBI double by Caleb Martin off Brock Mammoser, scoring Lane Koenig. Martin got the win for Effingham Post 120. He allowed four runs over six innings. He struck out five, walked four and gave up three hits. Woltman, Bryar Jansen, Martin and Koenig helped lead Effingham. They combined for nine hits and six RBIs. Mammoser was charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in seven innings, walked seven and struck out four. Effingham Post 120 closer Zach Bateman put away the final three outs to record the save.
The top of the second saw Effingham Post 120 take an early lead, 2-0. Bateman kicked things off for Effingham with a double. A passed ball then moved Bateman from second to third. Martin singled, plating Bateman. More runs came home for Effingham Post 120 when Martin scored on an RBI single by Kyle Pease. Effingham Post 120 posted two runs in each of the third, fourth and seventh. In the third, Effingham Post 120 scored on an RBI single by Bateman, scoring Jansen.
It didn't take long for Newton Post 20 to answer as it scored four runs of its own in the third. Newton Post 20 scored on an RBI single by Michael Carr, a sacrifice fly by Brock, an RBI double by Mitchell Jansen, and an RBI single by Bryan Spitzer. After posting one run in the sixth, Effingham Post 120 again scored one in the 10th. In the sixth, Effingham scored, bringing home Eli Buhrman.
Newton Post 20 scored four runs of its own in the sixth. Newton Post 20 scored on a two-run single by Nate Meinhart and a two-run single by Brock.

Effingham Post 120 split victories with Teutopolis Post 924 in Saturday doubleheader action.
Effingham won 7-6 after a late game double brought in the winning run.
In the second contest, Devin Mayfield's big day wasn't enough as Post 120 fell to Teutopolis 10-1.
In a doubleheader Sunday hosting Salem, Post 120 claimed both victories. Effingham won 11-6 as Clayton Ruckman helped the squad.
Then in the second game, Post 120 outscored Salem 11-9 for the win.
