Effingham, Altamont Split Junior Legion Doubleheader

Effingham Post #120 and Altamont Post #512 split in Junior American Legion baseball Friday night at Evergreen Hollow Park. Post #120 won the opener, 1-0, while Post #512 took the nightcap, 9-1.

In the opener, Effingham's Lane Koenig outdueled Altamont's Klaiton Wolff. Koenig allowed no runs on two hits and one walk while striking out 10. Wolff pitched a dandy, as well, allowing one unearned run on one hit and three walks while fanning six.

The only run of the game came in the fifth inning. Post #120's Will Clausius got their only hit of the game to start the inning, advanced to second on an attempted pickoff play, went to third on a ground ball by Colby Utz and scored on a fielder's choice by Cory Osborn.

Nick Miller and Wolff had the two Altamont hits.

In the second game, Altamont took a 1-0 lead in the first, made it 3-0 in the fourth, added four runs in the sixth and scored twice in the seventh. Effingham got its lone run in the fifth inning via an error.

Nick Miller went the distance for the win for Altamont, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks while fanning eight. Colby Utz started for Effingham and took the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits and a walk while fanning four in 5-1/3 innings of work. Caleb Martin pitched the last 1-2/3 innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on one hit and four walks while fanning one batter.

At the plate for Altamont, Nick Miller singled and walked and scored twice, Caleb Miller walked twice and drove in two runs, Klaiton Wolff singled twice and drove in a run, Devon Guerrettaz singled and scored, Brandon Runge scored a run, Kaleb Whitt walked and scored twice, Kolby Pemberton doubled twice and singled, scored twice and drove in a run, Christian Freezeland singled, scored a run and drove in two runs, and Noah Kopplin walked.
