Effingham Post 120 split a doubleheader Saturday with Olney and came back Sunday to split victories with Vandalia.

In Saturday's games, Carter Hayes did all he could to give Post 120 a boost in the opening game but it wasn't enough to get past Olney in an 8-5 loss at Paul Smith Field.

Carter racked up two RBI on one hit. He homered in the first inning on a blast to straight-away center field.

Olney jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Post 120 answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on the homer by Carter. Olney then tallied five runs in the third and was never headed again.

Neil Williams finished with a single and two doubles for Effingham while Hayes had the home run and two RBI and Alex Carie a single and double.

Post 120 then claimed a rain-shortened second contest 2-0. Swayde Sanders went two-for-two with a home run in four innings. He singled in the first. Devin Mayfield shut down Olney on the mound, pitching a one-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts.

Effingham Post 120 split a doubleheader with Vandalia in Sunday competition.

In the opener, Post 120 went 2-1 to take the win. Vandalia's lone run came in the seventh on a solo home run by Powless.

Post 120 quickly matched Vandalia's strong inning with a two-run inning of its own in the bottom of the seventh. Eli Dasenbrock racked up two game-winning RBI on three hits. He singled in the second and sixth innings and doubled in the seventh inning for a walk-off, two-out Post 120 victory.

Zach Gardewine threw a gem and was complimented by the Vandalia coach for keeping his 6-0 team off balance and unable to square up the ball. Gardewine threw a four-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

In the second contest, Vandalia came back strong for an 11-7 victory. Trexler pitched the win allowing no hits and three walks.

Effingham finished with five hits led by Brennan Poland with a double.
