Cardinals Sweep D'backs

(St. Louis, MO) -- Allen Craig doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Cardinals doubled up the Diamondbacks 4-2 to sweep the three-game series at Busch Stadium. Matt Carpenter added an RBI-single in the eighth, while Shane Robinson had a game-tying two-run double in the sixth for the Redbirds, who have won seven of their last eight. Pat Neshek picked up his first win in relief of Lance Lynn, who tossed six innings of two-run ball. Tyler Rosenthal closed it out for his 14th save. Paul Goldschmidt and Aaron Hill plated a run each for Arizona, which has dropped five-of-seven. Wade Miley allowed three runs in 6 2/3 frames as he dipped to 3-5 with the loss.


Cubs Drop Padres

(San Diego, CA) -- Anthony Rizzo blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to help the Cubs to a 5-1 win over the Padres at Petco Park. Darwin Barney and Emilio Bonifacio each notched a hit and drove in a run for Chicago, which has won four of five. Jake Arrieta picked up his first win after striking out seven in six innings of one-run ball. Carlos Villanueva notched his first save. Eric Stults took the loss after allowing five runs in less than five frames. Seth Smith hit a solo homer for the lone run for San Diego, which has lost four straight.


White Sox Sink Yankees

(Chicago, IL) -- Chris Sale allowed a hit over six scoreless innings as the White Sox dropped the Yankees 3-2 from U.S. Cellular Field. He struck out 10 in his first start since mid April. Sale improved to 4-0 as the Sox won for the third time in four games. Adam Eaton was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Ronald Belisario notched his second save. David Phelps allowed two runs and struck out eight over seven innings for the loss. Mark Teixeira knocked in both runs for New York, which has lost three of four.


Marlins Foil Phillies In Ninth

(Miami, FL) -- Christian Yelich singled in the winning run with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Marlins a 4-3 win over the Phillies at Marlins Park. Giancarlo Stanton singled in a run in the sixth and Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run homer in the seventh to stake Miami to a 3-0 lead.  Philadelphia tied it with three in the eighth, capped by Marlon Byrd's two-run homer. Mike Dunn blew the save for the Marlins, with Steve Cishek getting credit for the win. Jacob Diekman took the loss for the Phils as Miami won the final two games in the three-game series.


Giants, Rockies Suspended Due To Rain

(Denver, CO) -- Thursday's game between the Giants and Rockies in Colorado is being suspended due to rain. The game will be completed on San Francisco's next trip to Denver in September. The contest, which featured two rain delays lasting more than an hour each, is tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.


Pirates Knock Off Nationals

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Edinson Volquez tossed six innings of one-run ball as the Pirates topped the Nationals 3-1 from PNC Park. Volquez improved to 2-and-4 while striking out four.  Andrew McCutchen knocked in two runs for Pittsburgh, which has won three of four. Mark Melancon locked up his eighth save. Ian Desmond hit a solo homer for Washington, which has lost two straight. Blake Treinen allowed two runs to take the loss.


Mets Step Up Late To Dump Dodgers

(Flushing, NY) -- Juan Lagares RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Mets the lead and they grabbed a 5-3 win over the Dodgers to avoid a three-game sweep at Citi Field. Curtis Granderson's one-run triple gave New York an insurance in the eighth and Jenrry Mejia locked up his second save with a perfect ninth. Jon Niese evened up his record at three dealing seven innings of three-run ball for the Mets, who moved to 21-25. Justin Turner tied the game at three with a two-run shot against his former team in the top of the seventh.  Reliever Chris Perez took the loss. Los Angeles is 25-23.


Braves Beat Brewers

(Atlanta, GA) -- Ryan Doumit drove in two runs in the seventh to give the Braves the lead as they held on to beat the Brewers 5-4 from Turner Field. B.J. Upton added a solo homer for Atlanta, which has won four of five. Alex Wood picked up the win while Craig Kimbrel locked up his 12th save. Jonathan Lucroy knocked in two runs while Jean Segura was 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Milwaukee, which has lost five of six. Brandon Kintzler took the loss in relief.


Rangers Roll To Win Over Tigers

(Detroit, MI) -- Shin-Soo Choo hit a two run homer to lead a 14-hit attack as the Rangers rolled to a 9-2 win over the Tigers at Comerica Park. Adrian Beltre had a two-run double and Michael Choice singled in two runs for Texas, which has won three of its last four games. Yu Darvish pitched seven innings of two-run ball to improve to 4-and-2 with the win. Robbie Ray was tagged for seven runs in less than four innings to take the loss for Detroit. Miguel Cabrera and Don Kelly drove in runs for the Tigers, who have lost four straight. Infielder Danny Worth struck out two while pitching a scoreless ninth for Detroit.


Rodriguez, Rays Walk Off A's In 11

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- Sean Rodriguez launched a two-out, three-run walk off home run in the 11th inning to propel the Rays past the Athletics 5-2 from Tropicana Field. Desmond Jennings had tied the game with a two-out single earlier in the inning. Yoenis Cespedes' sac fly had given the A's a 2-1 lead in the top of the inning after tying the game with an RBI double in the ninth off Rays closer Grant Balfour. Josh Lueke earned his first victory for Tampa, who broke a four-game losing streak. A's' Dan Otero took his first loss of the season in relief. Oakland have now lost twice in their last 13 games.


Indians Slip Past O's In 13

(Baltimore, MD) -- Carlos Santana's two RBI double in the top of the 13th inning lifted the Indians over the Orioles 8-7 at Camden Yards. Ryan Rayburn and Lonnie Chisenhall each hit a solo home run for Cleveland, which has won four straight. Josh Outman improved to 4-and-0 while Scott Atchison picked up his first save. Troy Patton took the loss for Baltimore giving up two runs in less than an inning. Ryan Flaherty and Nick Markakis each belted a homer for the O's, who have lost four of five.


Mariners Topple Astros

(Seattle, WA) -- Michael Saunders drove in two runs in the seventh off an infield single to lift the Mariners to a 3-1 win over the Astros at Safeco Field.  Robinson Cano also drove in a run on a sac-fly in the opening inning for Seattle, which has won three of four. Dominic Leone picked up his first win in relief and Fernando Rodney got the save. Jarred Cosart fell to 3-and-4 after allowing three runs in 6 1/3. Jose Altuve hit a solo homer in the opening inning for Houston's only score.
