City Series Washed Out; Other Action from Friday

The 2014 City Series was washed out Friday, leaving Effingham as the champion with their win Thursday.  

There was some other action Friday, though.

SOUTH CENTRAL 12, DIETERICH 2

The Cougars posted three-run innings in the first, second and fourth innings to secure the win, tallying once in the third and scoring twice in the sixth to end the game.  South Central racked up nine hits.

Dieterich scored twice in the fourth as the Movin Maroons garnered just five hits in the contest.

Ross went the distance for the win for South Central, allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and fanning eight.  For Dieterich, Traub pitched 2-2/3 innings, giving up seven runs, four earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out two.  A. Bohnhoff went 1-1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits including two home runs and struck out one.  C. Thoele went 1-2/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on a hit and a walk and fanning two.

BROWNSTOWN/ST. ELMO 2, RAMSEY 1

Malachi Maxey doubled Dustin Lawson home from first base with one out in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for the Bombers, now 15-9 on the spring.  Brownstown/St. Elmo had taken a 1-0 lead in the first, but Ramsey tied the contest with a run in the fifth, setting the stage for the bottom of the seventh dramatics.

Jacob Behrends got the win, allowing no runs on a hit and a walk in two innings of relief, striking out five in the process, to improve to 6-3 on the spring.

At the plate for B/SE, besides Maxey's game-winning double: singles for Levi Maxey, Behrends and Lawson.
