Cardinals Hold Off Cubs

(St. Louis, MO) -- Starting pitcher Michael Wacha's two-run single highlighted a four-run second inning and the Cardinals held on for a 5-3 win over the Cubs at Busch Stadium. Matt Carpenter had an RBI double and Yadier [[ YAH-dee-air ]] Molina singled in a run for St. Louis, which took two-of-three in the rain-shortened series. Wacha pitched seven innings of two-run ball to even his record at 3-3. Trevor Rosenthal got the final five outs for his 11th save. Jason Hammel gave up all five runs in 5 1/3 frames to fall to 4-and-2 with the loss. Starlin Castro hit his sixth home run for Chicago.

The Cubs are back at Wrigley Field today to start a three-game series with the visiting Brewers. Jeff Samardjiza is scheduled to toe the rubber for Chicago while Milwaukee counters with Kyle Lohse. The Cubs will also take on the Yankees next week to close the five-game homestand.

The Cardinals continue their homestand tonight as the Atlanta Braves come to town. Lance Lynn takes the mound for St. Louis in the opener of the three-game series.  He's 4-and-2 with a 3.83 ERA. The Braves counter with Ervin Santana, who is 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA thus far.

White Sox At Houston

(Houston, TX) -- The White Sox continue their road trek in Houston tonight to face the Astros. It's the first of a three-game series and the fourth contest of their nine-game road trip. The Sox snapped a four-game slide and took the finale of a three-game series in Oakland on Wednesday. Tonight, Jose Quintana takes the hill opposite Collin McHugh of Houston.

White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale and outfielder Adam Eaton are making their way back. Both were sent to Triple-A to begin rehab assignments. Sale is working his way back from a flexor muscle strain. He has been out since April 17. Meanwhile, ESPN says Eaton should be back in Chicago's lineup Sunday. He's been out with an injured hamstring.

Brewers Beat Pirates With Two-Run Ninth

(Milwaukee, WI) -- Khris Davis delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally the Brewers to a 4-3 win over the Pirates at Miller Park. Mark Melancon loaded the bases with a single and two walks before Davis singled to center to plate two and give Milwaukee the win. Rickie Weeks and Martin Maldonado hit solo homers for the Brew Crew, which took two-of-three in the series. Rob Wooten got credit for the win, while Melancon suffered his second blown save and took the loss. Tony Sanchez hit a two-run homer and Gaby Sanchez added a solo shot for Pittsburgh.

Giants Rally By Marlins

(San Francisco, CA) -- Buster Posey hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to help the Giants top the Marlins 6-4 from AT&T Park. Matt Cain picked up his first win of the year after tossing seven-and-two-thirds innings of four-run ball. Sergio Romo locked up his 14th save. Derek Dietrich and Garrett Jones both hit a homer for Miami, which has lost six of seven. Nate Eovaldi allowed all the runs in four-and-a-third innings for the loss.

Twins Outlast Red Sox In 10 Innings

(Minneapolis, MN) --  Aaron Hicks singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Twins outlasted the Red Sox 4-3 at Target Field. Chris Parmelee hit a two-run homer for Minnesota, which blew an early 3-0 lead before pulling out the win.  Brian Duensing got credit for the win after Glen Perkins blew the save in the ninth. Andrew Miller took the loss for Boston, which dropped two-of-three in the series. Will Middlebrooks' two-run single in the ninth knotted the game at three for Boston to set up extra innings. Mike Carp had a run-scoring, infield single for the Red Sox in the fourth.

Blue Jays Double Up Indians

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Edwin Encarnacion homered twice and drove in three as the Blue Jays doubled up the Indians 4-2 in the rubber match of a three-game series at Rogers Centre. Juan Francisco also went deep for the Jays, who have won three-of-four. J.A. Happ tossed six innings of one-run ball as he improved to 2-1. Casey Janssen closed it out for his second save. David Murphy homered and Yan Gomes plated the other run for Cleveland, which alternated wins and losses during its six-game road trip to Tampa and Toronto. Danny Salazar surrendered two runs in four frames to suffer the loss and fall to 1-4.

O's Edge Royals In KC

(Kansas City, MO)  --  Nelson Cruz's two-run homer in the fourth inning held up as the Orioles edged the Royals 2-1 in the opener of a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium.  Wei-Yin Chen tossed five-and-a-third innings of one-run ball for his fifth win.  Zach Britton closed it out for his first career save.  The O's snapped a four-game losing streak.  Danny Valencia's sac-fly in the fourth plated the lone run for the Royals, who had won their previous three.  Yordano Ventura struck out nine in six-and-a-third frames, but allowed the homer to Cruz to suffer the loss and fall to 2-and-3.

Angels Walk Off Rays In Comeback Win

(Anaheim, CA) -- Mike Trout blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to complete the Angels' 6-5 comeback victory over the Rays in Anaheim. Raul Ibanez and Collin Cowgill each batted in a run as well for Los Angeles, which has won six of seven. Fernando Salas notched the win after pitching one scoreless inning. Brad Boxberger took the loss for Tampa Bay after allowing the game-winning homer to Trout. Brandon Guyer hit a home run and drove in two runs while James Loney also drove in two runs. The Rays had won two in-a-row.

Yankees Blank Mets Again

(Flushing, NY) -- Alfonso Soriano knocked in the only run of the game as the Yankees outlasted the Mets 1-0 from Citi Field. It's the second straight shutout for the Yankees over the Mets.  Chase Whitley allowed two hits and struck out four over 4 2/3 innings in his major-league debut. Dellin Betances picked up the win in relief. David Robertson added his seventh save for the Yankees, who swept the two-game set at Citi Field after losing four straight. Jacob deGrom struck out six over seven innings, but gave up the run to take the loss in his big-league debut. The Mets won the first two of this Interleague home-and-home series at The Stadium.
