Cardinals Edge Cubs 4-3 in 12, MLB Roundup

Cardinals Walk Off On Cubs

(St. Louis, MO) -- Greg Garcia was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th as the Cardinals notched a 4-3 win over the Cubs at Busch Stadium. Jhonny Peralta went 3-for-5 with an RBI while Matt Adams was 2-for-4 and knocked one in. Adam Wainwright pitched six innings of two-run ball before Trevor Rosenthal blew the save. Seth Maness notched the win in relief as St. Louis earned its second win in three games. Emilio Bonifacio singled in the tying run in the ninth for Chicago and Luis Valbuena hit a two-run homer as part of a 3-for-6 effort. Justin Grimm took the loss for the Cubs, who have dropped four of five.

Cardinals pitcher Tyler Lyons is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder. The Cards have also optioned pitcher Eric Fornataro to Triple-A Memphis. To fill those spots, pitchers Sam Freeman and Jorge Rondon were both recalled from Memphis before last night's game.

The Cubs and Cardinals play the third of four games tonight at Busch Stadium. Jason Hammel takes a 4-1 record to the hill for Chicago. St. Louis counters with Michael Wacha, who is 2-3 with a 2.85 ERA. First pitch is set for 7:15.

Athletics Blank White Sox

(Oakland, CA) -- Brandon Moss hit two home runs and had five RBI to lead the A's to an 11-0 shutout win over the White Sox at the Oakland Coliseum. Josh Reddick also hit a homer for Oakland, which has won six straight. Craig Gentry and Yoenis Cespedes each went 2-for-4 and batted in a run. Drew Pomeranz got the win striking out eight in five frames. Scott Carroll took the loss for the White Sox allowing six runs and 11 hits in five innings of work. Just four players got hits for Chicago, which has lost four in-a-row.
Sox Face A's In Finale

The White Sox and Athletics play the finale of their three-game series this afternoon in Oakland. Anthony Rienzo gets the start sporting a 3-and-0 record for Chicago. The A's counter with left-hander Tommy Milone, who is 1-3 with a 4.54 ERA. First pitch is set for 2:35.

Brewers Drop Pirates

(Milwaukee, WI) -- Jonathan Lucroy drove in two runs to help the Brewers to a 5-2 win over the Pirates at Miller Park.  Mark Reynolds, Jean Segura and Rickie Weeks also drove in a run each for Milwaukee, which won it's third straight game. Marco Estrada picked up the win striking out eight in six innings of one-run ball, while Francisco Rodriguez notched his 16th save. Gerrit Cole fell to 3-3 surrendering three runs in five-and-two thirds. Neil Walker hit a solo homer and Gaby Sanchez also drove in a run for the Pirates, who lost their second straight after winning four-in-a-row.

Arroyo Leads D'backs Past Nationals

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Bronson Arroyo went the distance as the Diamondbacks nipped the Nationals 3-1 in the middle of a three-game set at Chase Field. Arroyo scattered seven hits and just the one run, while striking out seven as he improved to 4-2 with his third straight win. Paul Goldschmidt doubled twice and drove in two, while Miguel Montero also plated a run for the Snakes, who have won five-of-seven. Ian Desmond tripled in the lone run in the second inning for Washington, which lost for the fourth time in five games. Stephen Strasburg yielded three runs in seven frames as he slipped to 3-3.

Dodgers Bury Marlins

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Dodgers tallied five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 7-1 victory over the Marlins at Dodger Stadium. Hanley Ramirez drove in two runs while five other players chipped in an RBI for Los Angeles, which has won three of four. Josh Beckett improved to 1-1 after striking out six while allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings. Jacob Turner took the loss for Miami after allowing four runs in 5 1/3 frames. Marcell Ozuna drove in the lone run in the seventh for the Marlins, who lost their fifth straight.

Braves Shut Out Giants

(San Francisco, CA) -- Mike Minor and three relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Braves blanked the Giants 5-0 at AT&T Park. Minor got his first win after striking out six while allowing just three hits in six-and-two-thirds innings. Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs while also scoring two. Andrelton Simmons and B.J. Upton also chipped in an RBI apiece for Atlanta, which has won four of five. Ryan Vogelsong took the loss after giving up four runs in six frames. Hunter Pence went 2-for-4 for San Francisco, which had won its previous two.

Cabrera Helps Tigers Rally Past Orioles

(Baltimore, MD) -- Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer in the ninth and Victor Martinez followed with a solo shot as the Tigers rallied for a 4-1 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards. The outburst wouldn't have been possible had replay not overturned Rajai Davis' steal of second base earlier in the inning.  Cabrera and Martinez each finished with two hits while Drew Smyly pitched six innings of one-run ball. Justin Miller got the win in relief while Joe Nathan notched his ninth save as Detroit won its third in four games. Tommy Hunter coughed up the lead and game for Baltimore, blowing his third save and second straight. Ubaldo Jimenez had struck out seven over seven innings of three-hit ball for the O's while Adam Jones went deep. Baltimore has lost three straight since a five-game win streak.

Blue Jays Hold Off Indians

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Juan Francisco homered and doubled in a run as the Blue Jays held on to beat the Indians 5-4 in the opener of a three-game series at Rogers Centre. Adam Lind also plated two runs, while Melky Cabrera had an RBI and scored for the Jays, who have won two in-a-row after a three-game skid.  R.A. Dickey allowed four runs, two earned, in six innings as he improved to 4-3. Casey Janssen closed it out for his first save. Lonnie Chisenhall, Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher knocked in a run each in the seventh for Cleveland, which has lost two-of-three. Swisher had two RBI in defeat. Justin Masterson permitted all five runs in 5 1/3 frames as he fell to 2-2.

Parmelee Sends Twins Past Red Sox

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Chris Parmelee hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to send the Twins to an 8-6 win over the Red Sox at Target Field.  Parmelee finished 3-for-4 while Eduardo Nunez hit a two-run shot earlier in the game for Minnesota. Kurt Suzuki had three hits and knocked in a run while Brian Dozier plated two as the Twins won their third in four games. Ricky Nolasco threw six innings of three-run ball while Glen Perkins got the win in relief. David Ortiz went 4-for-5 with two solo homers and four RBI for Boston. Shane Victorino was 3-for-5 with an RBI while Andrew Miller suffered the loss. The Sox had won four out of five.

Keuchel Helps Astros Blank Rangers

(Houston, TX) -- Dallas Keuchel tossed a complete-game seven-hitter as the Astros blanked the Rangers 8-0 at Minute Maid Park.  Keuchel struck out seven and surrendered no walks while improving to 4-2. L.J. Hoes went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI while Carlos Corporan blasted a three-run shot. Chris Carter was also 3-for-4 and scored twice as Houston snapped a 10-game home losing streak to the Rangers. The Astros have won two out of three overall. Matt Harrison allowed three runs before leaving in the second inning with back stiffness. He fell to 1-1 as Texas lost its third in four games.

Price Shines As Rays Top M's

(Seattle, WA) -- David Price shined as the Rays outworked the Mariners for a 2-1 win at Safeco Field. Price went the distance and struck out 12 while scattering six hits and allowing one run to improve to 4-3. He trailed nearly the entire game after giving up a first-inning RBI groundout to Robinson Cano. Tampa Bay came back on Seattle closer Fernando Rodney in the ninth as David DeJesus homered and Matt Joyce singled in a run. The Rays had lost six out of seven. Rodney took the loss, spoiling Hisashi Iwakuma's start. Iwakuma went eight scoreless innings and struck out five as the Mariners lost their third in five games.

Mets Surge Past Yankees

(Bronx, NY) -- Daniel Murphy and Curtis Granderson each cracked three-run home runs to lead the Mets past the Yankees 12-7 at Yankee Stadium. David Wright went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Mets, who have won three straight. Daisuke Matsuzaka got his first win after giving up one run in three-and-two-thirds. Vidal Nuno took the loss for the Yanks, surrendering five earned runs and walking four in just 3 1/3. Brian McCann and Yangervis Solarte each hit home runs for the Yankees, who've lost four straight.

Angels Clip Phillies

(Philadelphia, PA) -- A four-run sixth inning keyed by a two RBI double from Luis Jimenez lifted the Angels to a 4-3 win over the Phillies in the first of two at Citizens Bank Park. Matt Shoemaker earned his first win of the season dealing five innings of two-run ball. Ernesto Frieri nailed down his fifth save for Los Angeles, which has won four of five. Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Carlos Ruiz each knocked in a run in the defeat. Cliff Lee took the loss after allowing four unearned runs in seven innings. Philadelphia is 2-6 in its last eight.

Shields, Royals Hold Down Rockies

(Kansas City, MO) -- James Shields struck out eight over seven innings of one-run ball to help the Royals to a 5-1 win over the Rockies at Kauffman Stadium.  Shields improved to 5-3. Lorenzo Cain hit a two-run homer while Salvador Perez added a solo shot. Alcides Escobar finished 2-for-4 with two RBI as Kansas City won its fifth in seven games. Franklin Morales fell to 3-3 after allowing four runs in five innings for Colorado. Justin Morneau drove in the lone run for the Rox, who have lost four out of five.
