Teutopolis Junior Legion Wins First-Ever Championship

The Teutopolis Junior Legion Post 924 baseball team won its first ever championship in the American Junior Legion Fifth Division Tournament held in Vandalia from July 28-30. The squad went 3-0 in the tournament to win the title and advance to its first ever Junior Legion State Tournament.

The team first competed against Orient and won 10-4, then played Salem and claimed a 6-1 victory. T-town then faced a tough Belleville squad and went into the eighth to win 3-2.

The team will compete in Peoria Friday at the American Junior Legion State Tournament against other division winners from throughout the state of Illinois. Members of the team include Todd Jansen, Andy Borries, Hayden Davis (batboy), John Ungrund, Jordan Bloemer, Brock Mette, Reed Hardiek, Tyler Gebben, Derek Smith, Ted Jansen, Darren Probst, Justin Kenter, Will Beck, Ryan Ruholl and Michael Gillespie. Coach is Dennis Blievernicht and assistant coaches are Kevin Koester and Todd Funneman.
