Effingham Post 120 was scheduled to play Alton Thursday in the Senior Legion Division Baseball Tournament at Pinckneyville. But an unexpected event occurred . . . it rained and the game was postponed until today. Effingham will face Alton at 1 p.m. If the city squad wins, it will face Fairview Heights at 7 p.m. for the championship. If Effingham should win that contest, then it will square off against Fairview Heights again in the double elimination tournament Saturday. Effingham has to win twice to claim the title.

Shelby County Advances

Shelby County Legion Posts 289-611-725 picked up another victory to hang on in the Fifth Division  American Legion Tournament Thursday. Shelby County edged Mattoon Legion Post 88 4-3.  Shelby County took a 3-2 first inning lead then pushed that to 4-2 in the fifth. Mattoon came back with a run in the sixth but fell short.

Shelby County improves to 29-14 and has now won three straight loser bracket games. The team will square off today at 5 p.m. against the winner of the loser's bracket in games that were played at Champaign.
