Effingham Still Alive in Senior Legion Division Tournament

Effingham Post 120 suffered its first loss in the Senior Legion Division Tournament Wednesday at Pinckneyville. Post 120 fell to Fairview Heights 4-3.

Effingham stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead but Fairview Heights came back with a run in the second and took a 3-2 lead in the third. Fairview Heights then tacked on what would prove to be the winning run in the seventh. Effingham fought back with a run in the eighth but fell short. Effingham was led by Nick Gardewine and Nate Garbe with two hits and an RBI each.

In other games Wednesday, Pinckneyville eliminated Carrier Mills 10-3 and Alton ousted Murphysboro 18-1. Today's schedule finds Pinckneyville against Alton at 1 p.m. and Effingham taking on the winner of that contest at 7 p.m. Fairview Heights advanced to the championship game Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of the Effingham vs. Winner of Game 10 contest.
