Walker HR In 10th Gives Bucs Walk-Off Win

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Neil Walker led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a home run to give the Pirates a 1-0 win over the Cubs on Opening Day at PNC Park. Francisco Liriano and four relievers combined on a six-hit shutout for Pittsburgh. Liriano struck out 10 over six innings of four-hit ball. Bryan Morris picked up the win in relief.

The Cubs continue their three-game series with the Pirates tomorrow night in Pittsburgh. Chicago will send Edwin Jackson to the hill. The Bucs are scheduled to counter with Charlie Morton. First pitch for Wednesday's contest is set for 6:05.

Cardinals Shut Out Reds In Opener

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Yadier Molina slugged a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning as the Cardinals beat the Reds 1-0 on Opening Day in Cincinnati. Adam Wainwright struck out nine over seven innings of three-hit ball for the win. Trevor Rosenthal pitched the ninth for his first save.

The Cardinals and Reds resume their opening three-game series in Cincinnati tomorrow night. Youngster Michael Wacha will take the ball for the Redbirds, while Cincinnati starts Tony Cingrani. Wednesday's game at Great American Ball Park gets underway at 6:10 p.m.

 

 White Sox Top Twins In Opener

(Chicago, IL) -- Alejandro De Aza homered twice and Chris Sale pitched into the eighth inning as the White Sox topped the Twins 5-3 on Opening Day at U.S. Cellular Field. Jose Abreu went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his big league debut for Chicago. Sale struck out eight over seven-and-a-third innings of three-run ball for the win. Matt Lindstrom worked the ninth for his first save.

The White Sox and Twins will resume their three-game series from The Cell Wednesday afternoon. Right-hander Felipe Paulino takes the mound for the Pale Hose.  Minnesota is scheduled to counter with Kevin Correia. First pitch is slated for 1:10 Wednesday afternoon.
