BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville second baseman Chase Green (Effingham, Ill.) has been chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference baseball Player of the Week after leading SIUE to a weekend sweep
on the road at Murray State.

The junior led the Cougars offensively for the week and shined when it mattered most, helping the Cougars to their first OVC series sweep of the year.

Green hit .462 (6-13) over the weekend with two home runs and eight RBIs in the three-game series. Green provided most of the offensive punch Friday and Saturday against the 'Breds. On Friday, he opened the scoring with his first career grand slam in the third inning to give SIUE a 4-0 lead. Green led off the fifth inning with a solo home run to finish the game with five of SIUE's six RBIs. On  Saturday Green's two-run single in the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the Cougars' 3-1 win. Green added three hits, including an RBI single, in Sunday's 8-0 win.

The award is the first of Green's career. Green joins Tennessee Tech's Chris Chism, who was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week, as the OVC's weekly winners.

The Cougars entertain nonconference foe Maryville tonight at Simmons Baseball Complex and play host to OVC preseason favorite Tennessee Tech in a weekend series Friday through Sunday.
