Cubs Lose To Padres

(Mesa, AZ) -- Carlos Villanueva gave up three runs in four innings as the Cubs lost to the Padres 7-1 last night in Mesa. Donnie Murphy went 1-for-3 and knocked in the lone Chicago run in the defeat. The Cubs play split-squad games against the Angels and Padres today.

Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro says he's close to rejoining the team. Castro played in a minor-league game on Monday and was in the field for the first time since suffering a hamstring strain on March 2. The 24-year-old says he feels good and is ready to take the next step.


Cardinals Fall To Mets

(Port St. Lucie, FL) -- Shelby Miller allowed three runs over five innings as the Cardinals lost 5-3 to the Mets Monday in Port St. Lucie. Shane Robinson went 2-for-4 for St. Louis, which rallied for three runs in the seventh inning. The Redbirds play the Marlins today in Jupiter.


White Sox Down Mariners

(Peoria, AZ) -- Paul Konerko went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer as the White Sox clipped the Mariners 7-6 yesterday in Peoria. Marcus Semien also went deep on a three-run shot while Erik Johnson gave up three runs in six innings to pick up the win. The White Sox host the Rockies today.

The White Sox are locking up left-hander Jose Quintana. Chicago has signed him to a five-year extension worth at least $21-million.The deal includes club options for 2019 and 2020.  The 25-year-old Quintana went 9-7 with a 3.51 ERA in 33 starts last year.

 

Former Sox Manager Guillen To Join "BBTN"

(Bristol, CT) -- Former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is joining ESPN this season for "Baseball Tonight." The outspoken former skipper last managed with the Marlins in 2012. Guillen will also work with "Sunday Night Baseball" on ESPN Deportes.
