Effingham Advances in Division Tournament

Effingham Post 120 opened play in the Senior Legion Divison Tournament Monday at Pinckneyville by blasting Carrier Mills 19-9 in six innings. Effingham jumped on the board early with a five-run first and put the game away in the second with six runs. Tyler Bushue pitched three no-hit innings and ended up with the win, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Nick Gardewine and Mitch Dasenbrock swung hot bats. Gardewine had a single, three doubles and drove in three runs while Dasenbrock had two singles, a triple and four RBI. Nate Garbe hit two singles and drove in two runs.

In the other two games, Fairview Heights downed Murphysboro 12-9 and Pinckneyville won over Aviston 5-2. In today's contests, Effingham faces Alton at noon followed by Fairview Heights against Pinckneyville at 3:30 and Murphysboro taking on Aviston at 7.
