Cardinals Rolled By Nationals

(Viera, FL) -- Joe Kelly allowed five runs in two-and-a-third innings to take the loss in an 11-1 setback to the Nationals. Allen Craig was 2-for-2 with the lone RBI for St. Louis, which dropped to 2-5 in the spring.  The Cards clash with Detroit today.

The St. Louis Cardinals are locking up infielder Matt Carpenter long term.  The two agreed to a new deal for six seasons, and multiple reports say it's for 52-million-dollars with an option for the 2020 season.  He finished fourth in the National League MVP vote in 2013.  Carpenter led the league with 126 runs, 199 hits and 55 doubles last season.

The St. Louis Cardinals are bringing in 23-year-old Cuban shortstop Aledmys Diaz.  He is expected to report to spring training today.  He played five seasons in his native Cuba.  He hit .315 with 12 home runs and 11 steals in 2012.

Cubs Handle Brew Crew

(Mesa, AZ) -- Justin Ruggiano went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer as the Cubs downed the Brewers' split squad 10-8 Sunday in Mesa. Outfielder Ryan Sweeney left the game with some right knee soreness and is day-to-day. The Cubs face the Giants today.

White Sox, A's Tie

(Phoenix, AZ) -- The White Sox played to a 2-2 tie with the Athletics Sunday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Erik Johnson allowed a run in four innings while striking out five in the start. The ChiSox face the Brewers today.
