Carolyn J. Michl, 78, of Newton died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Willow Brook of Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton with the Revs. Phil Young and Michael Langley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, February 2, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Chapel Cemetery, rural Newton. Memorials may be made to the Falmouth Church of Christ.
Carolyn was born on December 5, 1935 in Olney, Illinois the daughter of Hal and Reba Romack. On September 22, 1951, Carolyn married Edward L. Michl. In addition to being a wife and mother, Carolyn was a secretary at E.R. Moore and Rita Kocher CPA, Rubsam’s Clothing Store, and the Jasper County Supervisor of Assessment Office.
She was a member of the Falmouth Church of Christ and served for many years as the Chairwoman of the Jasper County Democratic Women. Carolyn was an avid bowler and golfer. She also enjoyed flower gardening, having won the “Best Lawn” award for her efforts. In later years, time was best spent with family, from baking pies to just being together. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include, husband of sixty-two years Eddie Michl of Newton; sons, Gary Lee Michl, wife Debbie and Edward Lee Michl, Jr. both of Newton; daughters, Leslie Susan Michl, and husband Roger Taube of St. Croix, V.I. and Patti Jo Meinhart, husband Wayne of Mattoon, IL; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters Betty Henderson of Newton and Rosemary Carr of Hidalgo.
Her parents, brothers Neil and Max Romack, and sister Norma Whalen preceded her in death.
