George J. Swingler, 77, of rural Sigel, Illinois passed away at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

He was born January  8, 1936,  in Sigel, Illinois, the son of  Otto and Lena ( Koelsch ) Swingler. George married Mary Ann Willenborg, April  25, 1964, in Effingham, Illinois. He was a member of the St. Michael The Archangel Church in Sigel, IL, George served in the United States Army and was a retired dairy and grain farmer, a member of the Sigel American Legion Post # 1134 and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 665, of Effingham, Illinois.

Mr. Swingler leaves wife, Mary Ann Swingler of rural Sigel, IL; four children, Cindy Stephens and husband Monty of Sigel, IL, Jeff Swingler and wife Kelly of Sigel, IL, Angie Althoff and husband Paul of Effingham, IL and Kay Mette and husband Rich of Sigel, IL; one sister, Mary Ann Swingler of Effingham, IL; twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one step grandson and two step great grandchildren.

Mr. Swingler was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to the Donor's Choice.

The Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2013 in the St. Michael The Archangel Church of Sigel, Illinois, with the Rev. Fr. Sunder Ery of Effingham, Illinois, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 20, 2013, in The St. Michael The Archangel Church of Sigel, Illinois with a 6:30 P.M. Prayer Service with a K of C Rosary will be held immediately following.  Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery of Sigel, Illinois. The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, Illinois, is in charge of arrangements.
