Elmer Joseph Beckman, 87, of rural Wheeler, IL passed away at 5:37 AM – Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Island Grove, IL with Fr. Joe Carlos celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Dieterich, IL with full military rites by the Dieterich American Legion Post #628. Visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 PM – Friday, July 13, 2012 at the church with a wake service at 6:30 PM. There will also be visitation 1 hour before the mass in the church. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL. In loving memory of Elmer, memorials may be made to the Dieterich American Legion Post #628. Elmer was born on April 15, 1925 in rural Wheeler, IL the son of Bernard “Ben” and Frances (Koestner) Beckman. He married Thrasilla Kocher on October 26, 1957 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stringtown, IL. Elmer served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served from December of 1950 until his discharge in September of 1952. Elmer was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed raising goats, hogs, cattle, corn, soybeans and wheat. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish and longtime member of the Dieterich American Legion Post #628 where he served as treasurer for many years. He was an avid pool player and greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and telling stories of the old days.
Elmer is survived by: Wife of 54 years – Thrasilla Beckman of Wheeler, IL...3 Children – Elaine (Frank) Schumacher of Lillyville, IL, Burnel (Cathy) Beckman of Effingham, IL and Aaron (Catherine) Beckman of Roseville, CA...Grandchildren – Theresa Schumacher, Matthew (Cheryl) Schumacher, Maria Schumacher, Laura Beckman, Bryan Beckman, Lily Beckman and Zachary Beckman...Sister – Verena Brumleve of Teutopolis, IL.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Reatha; grandson Lawrence Schumacher; brother Jerome and sisters Ethel Brumleve and Blanche Probst.
