Doris Jean Bardash, 85, of Effingham, died at 6:03 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with the Rev. Drew Holloway officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday and one hour before service Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the Effingham County Humane Society. Doris was born on July 6, 1927 in Effingham, the daughter of Lonzo M. and Rose (Hoffman) Calvert. Doris graduated from Effingham High School and spent the bulk of her professional
career as assistant retail manager with the G.C. Murphy Co., working both at the downtown store and later at their mall store in Effingham. She loved interacting with the public, so much so that in her retirement years Doris worked at Wendy’s part time greeting customers and always having fun, employing her natural witty style. Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Effingham. She enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as gardening and playing with any and all animals. She loved being social and had the rare ability to bring a smile to even the saddest of faces.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Julie Jeffries and husband, David of Effingham, and Lou Ann Bardash and husband, Tom Ovans of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Missy Jeffries of Effingham, Michelle Scherzer and husband, Ben of Effingham; Brian Jeffries of Mt. Vernon; Brad Jeffries and wife, Laura of Effingham, and Alex Jeffries of Effingham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rose Marilyn Henkelman and brother-in-law, Ray Henkelman; and brother, James Edward Calvert.
