Russell D. Shamhart, 80, of Newton died at 9:05am Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Newton Rest Haven in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM – Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. Burial will be in Trexler Cemetery in Newton, IL with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the funeral home.

Russell was born on November 5, 1931 in Forrest, IL the son of Francis Henry “Boo” and Nancy (Craig) Shamhart. Russell served his county in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Russell worked at Wagner Casting Co for 19 years and later retired from CIPS. Russell was a member of the Newton VFW and Jasper Post #20 American Legion. He loved fishing and hunting, especially alligators in Louisiana. To his grandchildren he was known as Grandpa Gator.
Russell is survived by: 3 Children – Vikki (Michael) Burgett of Newark, CA, Kathy (Michael) Golick of Mundelein, IL and Michael Shamhart of Newton, IL...8 Grandchildren...5 Great Grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents...his son, Rusty...brother Jerry Shamhart and a sister Irene Goldman.
