Dale was born October 7, 1929, in Watson, the son of Jerome and Bertha (Hosman) Webb. He married Hilda K. Johnston February 14, 1948. On October 1, 1961, Dale and Hilda bought the Ooton property at the corner of Hamilton and South Banker Street and it became Webb’s Auto and Alignment Shop, Inc. for the next 30 years. Dale and Hilda retired on January 1, 1991. Dale was a member of the Watson Baptist Church for 59 years and a member of Watson Masonic Lodge 602 for 62 years. He was a member of the Unit 40 School Board for three years, serving as president for one year. He served as the Watson Township Clerk for four years and as Watson Township Supervisor for four years. He got to see some wishes come true when the Watson Fire Department was organized and had a new building to meet in and enough equipment to do the job! Dale was a trustee of Watson Baptist Church when he and a lot of good people with their “hearts of one accord” built a new church home for all in 1969. Every fall for several years, he and his good buddies went West to hunt and fish, always winding up at his beloved Uncle Cecil Hosman’s place in Mobridge, South Dakota. Dale also loved to frequent the “coffee shop” in Watson and loved nothing more than playing pranks on his friends and laughing.
Dale is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Hilda of Effingham; sons, Joe “JD” (wife Judy) Webb of Baker City, Oregon, John (wife Vicki) Webb of Freeport, Elwyn Webb of Freeport, Robert (wife Charlotte) Webb of Katy, Texas, and Jason (wife Julie) Webb of Altamont; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ardel Slone of Effingham.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; oldest grandson, Joshua Webb; and brothers and sisters, Leo, Jesse, Lewis, Elwyn, Lester, Lucille, Esta, Iva, and Ida.
