Irene Kreke, 90, of Effingham died at 12:11pm Monday, October 28, 2013 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham, with Dr. Joe Scheets officiating. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, and also 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.  Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham.  Irene was born on May 22, 1923, in Shumway, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Emma (Knierim)   Hamilton. She married Steve Kreke on November 5, 1946, in Effingham, and they would have celebrated 67 years of marriage.  Irene was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham. She was very passionate about helping people through church activities, Meal on Wheels, FISH, and Hospice Care. Irene was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She retired from the Illinois Glove Factory as a supervisor after 47 years of service.

Irene is survived by her husband, Steve Kreke of Effingham; son, Scott (Kathy) Kreke of Effingham; grandchildren, Lindsey (Luke) Althoff, Jenna Kreke, and Trevor Kreke; twin great grandsons, Vincent and Owen; sisters, Romaine Janes of Mattoon and Alice (John) Horn of Farmington, NM; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Hamilton of Effingham.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Hamilton; and brother-in-law, Marvin Janes.
