David E. Rhoades, Sr., 78, of Herrick passed away at 12:00 p.m. Friday (October 18, 2013) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Herrick Christian Church with Pastor Terry Walters officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Myers Cemetery, Herrick with military rites. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden.

He was born November 3, 1934 in Fayette County the son of Ozias D. and Nellie (Beck) Rhoades. He married Vicki Beck August 31, 1974 in Herrick. He was a retired farmer, former road commissioner for Bowling Green Township and set many Veterans’ markers in Central Illinois. He served in the US Army and was a former member of the Herrick American Legion. David enjoyed his grandchildren, visiting friends, hunting and fishing, cutting wood and his blackberries.

Surviving are his wife, Vicki; daughter, Paula Rhoades of Pana; sons, David Rhoades, Jr. of Peoria, Jason Rhoades of Oconee, Aaron Rhoades of Herrick, John Rhoades of Oconee; brother, Robert Rhoades (Alice) of Herrick; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Glen Sturgeon.
