Mildred Heater (90) of Effingham

Mildred Louise Heater, 90, of Effingham, formerly of Tolono and Crawfordsville, Indiana, died at 1:10pm Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Willow Brook (formerly Aspen Creek) in Effingham, after an extended struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood, IL, followed by graveside services at Loy Chapel Cemetery.

Mildred was born on August 14, 1923 in Crawfordsville, Indiana to William Erbert and Victoria (Hodges) Underwood. She was married to Robert “Ernie” E. Heater on December 6, 1952 in Terre Haute, Indiana. Mildred was a Homemaker. She liked to tell stories of her youth, how she could dance on roller skates and enjoyed being a waitress because she loved people. Family was everything to her; she loved her husband, and was loved steadfastly by him. He cared for her at home many years, until he became ill.  She was called “Nanny” by her grandson, they shared a birthday and she loved every minute spent with him.

She is survived by daughter; Sue Getz and her husband Paul of Effingham, IL., grandson; Kyle Getz of Effingham, IL., brother-in-law; Dick Grindley of Crawfordsville, IN., and a niece; Teresa Davis of Crawfordsville, IN.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather; Carl Nooman, brothers; Jim Underwood and Bob Underwood, sister-in-law; Vivian Grindley.
