John L. Wenthe, 78, of Mt. Zion, formerly of Effingham died at 2am Saturday, September 28, 2013 in Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colorado.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 4 at 10am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1960 East Johns Avenue, Decatur. A graveside committal service will be Friday at 3pm at Oakridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday at Dawson and Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church. Condolences to www.dawson-wikoff.com
He was born November 14, 1934 in Effingham, the son of John and Dorothy (Soltwedel) Wenthe. He married Lois A. Frankenstein on November 24, 1955. He was a retired pressman from Houston-Patterson Printing Corporation. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He was a long-time member of the Decatur Gun Club. He was currently employed part-time for Decatur Auto Auction.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Wenthe of Mt. Zion...his mother, Dorothy Wenthe of Effingham...daughter, Kathy Webb and husband Steve of Anderson, South Carolina...son-in-law, Paul Lambert of Valparaiso, Indiana...brother, Rev. Dean Wenthe and wife Linda of Ft. Wayne, Indiana...five grandchildren...and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and daughter, Debbie Lambert.
