Joseph C. Unkraut, 83, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 26,
2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, rural Effingham (Green Creek). Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, (Green Creek). Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael Gym Fund, Sigel or donor’s choice. Joseph was born on January 4, 1929 in Effingham, the son of Bernard and Lena (Westjohn) Unkraut. He married Marlene T. Fuesting on May 25, 1955, and she survives. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church (Green Creek) and the Men’s Holy Name Society. He was a member of Effingham VFW Post 1769. After serving in the military, he was a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed playing cards.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Marlene Unkraut of Effingham; daughter, Janet M. Miller of Perryville, MO; granddaughters, Rachael Allen, Kristen Allen, Courtney Allen, and Paige Miller; brother, Leonard (Augusta) Unkraut of Effingham, and sister, Loretta Koester of Teutopolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond Unkraut and Bernard Unkraut; and sister, Mary Tegeler.
