P. James Jacobs, 72 of Mattoon, died at 4:10 AM Monday, June 25, 2012 at Mattoon Health Center.

Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood with burial to follow at Bethsaida Cemetery, rural Dieterich. Visitation is 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to Bethsaida Cemetery.

James was born on January 31, 1940 in Clay Co., IL the son of Claudius Oral and Erma Leota (Lewis) Jacobs.

He was a retired instructor from Lakeland College, Mattoon and former teacher at Central Jr. High School, Mattoon. He also owned and operated Jacobs Painting and Crane Service. He was a member of the Watson United Methodist Church, Watson, TAU KAPPA EPSILON fraternity, and Mattoon Moose Lodge.

Surviving are his children; Jason (Emily) Jacobs of Charleston and Sheri (Adam) Wahner of Windsor, mother; Leota Miller of Effingham, grandchildren; Calista Jacobs, Kaylee Atteberry, Ellie Jacobs, and Audrey Jacobs, great grandchildren; Kenley Reynolds and Joselyn Reynolds, and sister; Diane (Steve) Kibler of Dieterich.

He was preceded in death by his father and brothers; Richard and Larry Jacobs.
