Helen Lavon Wendte, 91, of Effingham died at 10:29pm Monday, July 15, 2013 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be 10:30am Thursday, July 18 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Wednesday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham and from 9:30 to 10:30am Thursday at the church. Memorials to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. www.bauerfh.com
She was born March 13, 1922 in Effingham County, the daughter of Lloyd and Nellie (Blunt) Wiles. She married Gilbert Stortzum in 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1967. She married Wilbert Wendte in 1985 and he preceded her in death in 2005. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham, was a former cook for the Unit 40 School District and was later employed at Walmart in Effingham.
Survivors include her two sons, Kent Stortzum and wife Mary Ann of Effingham and Kevin Stortzum of Lexington, Kentucky...three stepsons, David Wendte and wife Bea of Effingham, Roland Wendte and wife Lori of Dieterich, and J.R. Wendte of Lake Sara...stepdaughter, Janet Antonio of Monticello...three grandchildren, Jason Stortzum, Kim Lane and Aaron Stortzum...and seven great-grandchildren.
