Wayne R. Harder, 91, of Sullivan, formerly of Shumway, IL, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Mason Point in Sullivan, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Shumway United Methodist Church in Shumway, with the Rev. Paul Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the Shumway United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Wayne was born on June 3, 1922, in Shumway, IL, the son of Bert Christopher and Daisy Pearl (Ritchey) Harder. He married Martha Fulte on March 25, 1948, in Beecher City, IL.
Wayne was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific aboard the Destroyer USS Morrison DD560. He was a member of the Shumway United Methodist Church, Effingham American Legion Post 120, and Effingham County Farm Bureau. He was employed as a farmer, truck driver, and at Effingham Clay Service Co. Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved God, his family, his country and horses.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Martha Harder of Sullivan; daughter, Catherine (Rev. Jim) Peak of Mc Leansboro; son, Steven (Sharon) Harder of Shumway; daughter-in-law, Mary (Paul) Slifer of Shumway; son-in-law, James Anyango of Glen Allen, VA; grandchildren, Stacia (Darrin) Braun of Shumway, Laura Harder of Effingham, Ian Peak of Mt. Vernon, Elizabeth Peak (fiancé, John Sloan) of Elizabethtown, KY, Michael and Erica Anyango of Glen Allen, VA, and Matthew , Benjamin, and Daniel Harder all of Shumway; great-grandchildren, Braydon, Kaelyn and Sierra Braun, Marcus and Trenton Tuttle, and Barrett Harder; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Harder; daughter, Judith Anyango; 2 sisters; and 6 brothers.
